Clinton as Voldemort
Ok. Who read the New York Times article today about the Clinton’s obsession with listing those who were loyal and those who weren’t and couldn’t help but think of Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter?
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was gracious in her full-throated endorsement of Senator Barack Obama. But that does not mean all is forgiven by others in the Clinton universe.
For proof, look no further than Doug Band, chief gatekeeper to former President Bill Clinton.
Mr. Band keeps close track of the past allies and beneficiaries of the Clintons who supported Mr. Obama’s campaign, three Clinton associates and campaign officials said. Indeed, he is widely known as a member of the Clinton inner circle whose memory is particularly acute on the matter of who has been there for the couple — and who has not.
“The Clintons get hundreds of requests for favors every week,” said Terry McAuliffe, the chairman of Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign. “Clearly, the people you’re going to do stuff for in the future are the people who have been there for you.”
Mr. McAuliffe, who knows of Mr. Band’s diligent scorekeeping, emphasized that “revenge is not what the Clintons are about.” The accounting is more about being practical, he said, adding, “You have to keep track of this.”
Mr. Band, who declined to comment, is hardly alone in tallying those considered to have crossed the former candidate or the former president in recent months by supporting Mr. Obama. As the Obama bandwagon has swelled, so have the lists of people Clinton loyalists regard as some variation of “ingrate,” “traitor” or “enemy,” according to the associates and campaign officials, who would speak only on condition of anonymity.
After Voldemort was defeated he obsessed over which “Death Eaters” remained loyal and he aimed to punish those who weren’t upon his return. Much of the later books contained tales of ex-Death Eaters hiding from Voldemort and his loyal supporters because they either flipped sides, snitched, flat out denied their involvement or thought the Dark Lord to be finished.
I think Dumbledore summed up the Clinton cronies rather well:
“They were a motley collection; a mixture of the weak seeking protection, the ambitious seeking some shared glory, and the thuggish gravitating towards a leader who could show them more refined forms of cruelty.”
The fact that these same Clinton cronies have been willing to outspokenly dismiss the Clinton’s is the greatest evidence of the Clinton’s lack of power and intimidation.
Remember for a long while, the Clintons were the beating heart of power of the Democratic Party. Sirius Black summed it up rather nicely:
“Fourteen years ago he had huge numbers at his command — not just witches and wizards but all manner of Dark creatures…”
But now the Clinton’s have been defeated and banished from the halls of power. They are spending their days licking their wounds and listing their enemies, traitors, and former cronies and vowing vengeance.
Bill Richardson beware because let’s remember that even though everyone thought Voldemort was gone forever he returned. And so will, I fear, the Clintons. Chelsea in 2020?
