In May of 2005, 5 Sisters of Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration left Mother Angelica and their home convent in Alabama to head out to the desert. At the invitation of the Bishop of Phoenix, these nuns were start the first contemplative convent in the Phoenix area. This past week they broke ground on their new convent. It is great that the nuns are expanding…what it not great is that communities like this continue to hire architects who are not up to the job. This architect is doing a pretty good “B minus” sort of traditional architecture, but the details are wrong and the results are looking a bit strip mall in their derivation. They will be spending good money—they should be getting good architecture!
