Officials for Lowe’s stores put out advertisements for Christmas trees while calling them “family trees.” I don’t even know what a “family tree” is but the whole thing reeks of dumb men in expensive suits sitting around a boardroom.
But these brave hearts have now reneged on their idea by going back to selling good old fashioned “Christmas” decorations and “Christmas” trees this year after the American Family Association issued an alert to constituents the company’s catalog called them “family” trees.
That’s the problem with having no ideals. You can’t stick to them.
Lowe’s spokesman Chris Ahearn, and got the following response: “Let me reiterate my apology that we had an advertising error that created a stir,” Ahearn said. He said the corporation’s formal response was that the nationwide chain “is proudly committed to selling Christmas trees this year, as it has done for more than 60 years.”
The company said the posting of an ad for “family” trees” was an error in publication that “was not caught before the publication was distributed.”
“Lowe’s … is disappointed in the breakdown in the proofing process,” the company said.
Error in publication. WHAT WEASELS!

I think Target is capitalizing on this tendency to take Christmas out of Christmas. Have you noticed how they are making a point of saying “Christmas”? Now it is in no way religious, but I think they are trying to capitalize on Wal-Mart’s blunders of years past and this foolish tendency to remove the word Christmas.
