I wonder if the irony is lost on them?

Read this quote from some Canadian Anglicans.

“We cannot recognize the legitimacy of recent actions by the (Anglican) Province …We call upon the archbishop of Canterbury (the head of the Church of England) to make clear that such actions are not a valid expression of Anglicanism and are in contravention of the ancient and continuing traditions of the church. They aggravate the current tensions in the Anglican Communion.”

At first glance you probably think that this quote is from Traditionalist Anglicans calling on the “ancient and continuing traditions of the church” to protest the recent announcement that a bishop in Niagara will be “blessing” same sex marriages. You could not be more wrong.

The quote above is actually from the Anglican Church in Canada criticizing a bishop who has quit the Anglican Church in Canada to join the more traditional Anglican Church of the Southern Cone of the Americas (South America) in protest against the sanction of same sex unions. Yes, that is right. The Anglican Church in Canada is making an appeal to “ancient and continuing traditions of the church” in defense of same sex unions. They claim that to split off from the parent, fracturing communion, due to disagreement over what is a valid marriage is “not a valid expression of Anglicanism.”

Like I said, I wonder if the irony is lost on them?
