I’m not sure at all how I feel about Mike Huckabee yet but the guy quoted Chesterton in his Iowa victory speech yesterday. So he can’t be all bad, right?
Huckabee said: “A true soldier fights not because he hates those who are in front of him but because he loves those who are behind him…Running for office is not hating those who are in front of you but loving those who are behind you.”
I still find something kind of icky about Huckabee. I can’t help it.

Based on his policy, Huckabee would be an GREAT pro-life democrat (ala Casey). But you can’t be pro-life and run for president as a dem, (see Kuchinich)
so Huck’s a Republican…
But as a Republican who likes limited govt. in addition to pro-lifeness, I really can’t bring myself to go for Huck.
I’m still hoping Thompson will come through for me…..

deirdre, you nailed me exact feelings about Huckabee. And about Thompson. I was so gung-ho for Thompson when he announced but nothing’s really happened. And his third place finish in Iowa doesn’t seem to impress anyone. In the end if Huck’s the nominee I’ll support him but I’m not crazy about him.

Huckabee is Clinton redux. They are both from Hope, Arkansas. They both appear very sincere. It was a big boon for the minister and for the sex maniac. But is it truly sincere–or just a come-on?
Having had 8 years of Clinton, I won’t vote for Huck, even if he were running against Hillary. I figure Hillary will fully alienate the country in 4 years. Huck will slide us in his direction and make nice for re-election.
I have hope per Jesus and Ratzinger, but not Bill and Mike.

Matt,
I came across this page after browsing a website named LinkedIn. I was looking at users on that site from Saint Joseph’s and somehow eventually ended up here when I did a search on your name. It seems we are both writing 🙂
I just released a novel titled Burnt Popcorn And Cheap Perfume.
Drop me a line. You can find me on myspace.

There is no problem with a man being a Baptist, nor is there a problem with a man being a minister, nor is there a problem with a man being from Arkansas, but when the three characteristics are combined I figure I had better look out for my daughter and my ducats (to paraphrase Shakespeare).
