Republicans
I just finished watching the GOP debate is New Hampshire. Matthew has been preaching the ickiness of Huckabee to me for some time and I must admit, I am now on the same page. Huckabee is Ickabee. There is something about him that just strikes me as disingenuous and unctuous. Sure, I would take him over any of the democrats because of the life issues, however on everything else, I am not sure he is really that different from the Democrats. I continue to like Fred (click here to see why), but I know that he is dead in the water. Forget Giuliani. McCain is my second choice at this point because I just have to much disappointing history with him and I believe he wants to be liked by the press too much. I think that because of that fact we might very well end up with more Souters and Kennedys on the court. Much to my shock, I think I am lining up in the Mitt camp. Yes, Mitt. The Mormon. I think that because he has come 180 degrees on the life issues, there is no going back for him. He is all in on this issue. Politics does indeed make strange bedfellows.
Democrats
I don’t have much to say about the Democrats, except for…well. Obama? Really? They couldn’t be that….could they? Obama? Matthew doesn’t want me to write about this because he is afraid I may jinx it but, Obama? They will stop this Obama bus before it drives off the cliff, won’t they?
I have to think that if the Democrat party actually nominates Obama, that the next day Democrats who actually thought they might win in 2008 will be yelling at the television a la Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes. “Finally, you really did it! YOU MANIACS! YOU BLEW IT !! DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!'”

I suggest you google Ron Paul. You’ll find he is the most principled man on the race. If you think he can’t win, then how does one explain to oneself how this man, who vows to end farm subsidies, can get 10% of the republican vote in corn-dependent Iowa? Moreover, he is the only one who really wants to end the abortion holocaust, as is demonstrated here: http://www.newswithviews.com/baldwin/baldwin415.htm
Yours in Christ,
Gregory Cantor

Mr. Cantor,
You being an exception, too many of Dr. Paul’s groupie-like fans seem to have walked off the lot where they are remaking “The Planet of the Apes 2008”. That ten percent that you quote–makes one reflect a bit on just who they are. As for Dr. Paul, well, there is more than a touch of the Mother Ship to the guy. No matter his apparent libertarian leanings.

Fred finished third in Iowa, ahead of McCain. If that makes Fred “dead in the water,” then your lip-service-to-prolife-issues candidate McCain would be…

Is there an unconscious media black hole surrounding the Republican candidates (much in the vein of the unconscious racism that inheres in your average American–I was told so in mandatory diversity training in law school), or are these guys (Republicans) merely boring, un-news worthy, empty suits?
I must admit I had GMA on the tube during my first New Year’s workout this morning (we only get 3 channels and the remote was out of reach as I did ab crunches) and it played like an Obama pep-o-rally. Hillary was also given some pretty significant free air time to rebut Obama’s attacks.
The Democrats look very human since their faces and voices play constantly on TV (but alas, their ideas are rarely challenged). The Republicans, on the other hand, are largely unknown and mysterious, sort of like looming specters ready to devour small children.
I’m having a hard time getting excited about candidates I cannot see or hear.

Mr Hetman,
I urge you to judge the man and his platform, not his supporters. There are left-libertarians and conservative libertarians, and Dr. Paul is part of the latter group, not of the former.
By the way… Have you read the link? I think it may interest you.

Yeah, Patrick ya gotta at least give a look at Ron Paul. Only candidate that isn’t for bigger government.
I am pulling for him and I don’t fit in the nutter category. At least by my own definition.
