I’m confused. John McCain is once again implementing his ingenious “Alienate the Conservative Base” strategy. McCain said on Sunday that gays should not be allowed to adopt, as reported in the New York Times:
“I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no, I don’t believe in gay adoption.”
Pretty clear. In fact I started thinking to myself that maybe I’d been too hard on him in the past.
But…then the gay blogosphere went bonkers calling McCain a “homophobe” and “anti-gay” and then McCain did what McCain does. He buckled. Sending out Jill Hazelbaker, McCain’s Director of Communications, who said this via Andrew Sullivan:
McCain could have been clearer in the interview in stating that his position on gay adoption is that it is a state issue, just as he made it clear in the interview that marriage is a state issue. He was not endorsing any federal legislation.
McCain’s expressed his personal preference for children to be raised by a mother and a father wherever possible. However, as an adoptive father himself, McCain believes children deserve loving and caring home environments, and he recognizes that there are many abandoned children who have yet to find homes. McCain believes that in those situations that caring parental figures are better for the child than the alternative.
So, according to McCain, if push comes to shove and it’s a choice between foster home and gay parent we should choose to place the child with a gay parent. So, let me get this straight, he’s only against gay adoption if the child doesn’t actually need adopting? Seriously, that’s what he seems to be saying. That he’s against gay adoption unless the child really really needs to be adopted.
McCain is killing me.
For me, this is it in a nutshell. If McCain said it’s been proved that children do better with two heterosexual parents, then that should be case closed. This is not a gay rights issue. This must be about what’s best for children. But here’s the sad sad truth to all of this, folks. Children don’t vote. Gay people do. That means for politicians, the gays will win every time. Every single time.

When will we wake up to the fact that both parties have turned their back on the average American!

The truth is that even though John McCain disappoints us time and again, I feel that we have to vote for him just because of the judges on the life issue.

We have NO CHOICES this cycle; “Least weird” is not a choice. I will vote, but I’ll leave the presidential choices blank.

“McCain’s expressed his personal preference for children to be raised by a mother and a father wherever possible.”
And where that’s not possible, being suckled and raised by wolves is perfectly fine as long as it is determined on a state by state basis and does not contribute to global warming.
The thought of President Obama brings on nightmares of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse raining down retribution on our once fair nation. McCain might, at least, buy us a bit of time, even if the odor coming from the McCain White House might be at times unpleasant.

“Children don’t vote. Gay people do. That means for politicians, the gays will win every time. Every single time.”
That line says it all. McCain isn’t interested in right and wrong. He’s interested in winning. That’s it.

This entire dismal election season leaves me with persistent nausea. I’ll just have to take a big swig of Pepto Bismal and pull the lever for the guy who is against killing babies. What a shame.

I’m boycotting the election. Democracy is dead. I want a Catholic monarchy.
I’ll just pour myself a margarita and wait for Ceasar and his minions to drag me off to the lions.
God knows I won’t have to wait long.

Yay Brazil…
Sometimes, I wish they’d hurry up and imprison us already. At least then, we’d know where we stood. No more lukewarm persecution. Make it hot or cold.
I hate playing our society’s mind games.

You are sadly misinformed if you actually believe John McCain will appoint a conservative judge, if he even gets a chance. The only judge who probably will be replaced is Stevens–a liberal. With a Pres Obama, the court will stay identical 4 conservatives, 4 liberals and 1 swing. The next oldest is Ginsberg. I assure you, she will not retire under a Republican president and she will continue to sit on the bench until her corpse turns to ash. The other 2 libs–Souter and Breyer—are 70. Not likely they are going anywhere. My bet: President McCain will give the Supreme Court another Souter or Kennedy—both given to us by Papa Bush and Reagan (shudder). Go ahead—vote for McCain because you think he’ll change the court—ain’t gonna happen—and you still have answer to your conscience.

In 1976 my mother left her family to go live the lesbian lifestyle. I know first hand the damage that is inflicted on children under these circumstances. It’s unacceptable for our government to place a child under the care of a homosexual couple. Is this something the president can prevent? I doubt it.
I will vote for McCain because I believe that an Obama presidency will be extremely dangerous for America – on all levels. And I believe we have a responsibility to prevent his winning if at all possible.
In this election a blank vote is a vote for Obama. Don’t be fooled.

With McCain we have a 50/50 shot at getting a conservative judge. Obama gives us no chance. I’ll take McCain every day and twice on Sunday.
