First and overriding impression, he is angry. Annoyed. Not particularly hopeful.
Bush-Cheney-McCain are responsible for everything and anything that you don’t like.
The video introduction was … weird. The video just showed him making speech after speech after speech. From the time he was right out of school up until today. Speeches and more speeches. Not a single accomplishment to be touted. Not one.
The speech was a typical liberal Democrat speech. He was quite good in delivery at parts but as the speech went on, his voice got louder and slightly angrier. Aggrieved. Annoyed. Impatient. He also took it right to John McCain, many times. Maybe this is smart, I don’t know, but he certainly didn’t seem above the fray.
He said that government cannot solve all the problems, but then progressed through a long litany of old liberal ideas. Didn’t seem like change, just more of the same ol’.
One other strange bit, on the historic anniversary of the famous MLK “I have a dream” speech, he talked about that about as much as he talked about abortion. Perhaps he was afraid he would suffer by comparison if he highlighted that speech too much or perhaps he is afraid that he might look like the “black” candidate. I don’t know, but it seemed like an opportunity missed to get labeled the …
- “I have a scheme” speech
- “I am extreme” speech
- “I am a light beam” speech
- “I am mocha cream” speech
- “I’ll make you scream” speech
- “My real name is Kareem” speech
- “I’m frightened by Matthew Modine” speech
Now before you yell at me for my mocha cream remark, he sure did show his white momma and granmomma and awful lot, no?
And did you notice Matthew Modine getting all glassy eyed and amorous looking? If Matthew Modine ever looked at me that way, I would punch him in the teeth. He looked like he wanted to visit Barack Obama in the hospital himself, if you know what I mean. I’m just sayin’ is all.
More thoughts later as they come to me…
Oh by the way, if you haven’t watched our video “Mad World of Barack Obama” on his support for infanticide, please do.

B.A. Barackus and the O-Team are finally going to be leaving my fair city…and none too soon. Having seen Obamania up close this past week, all I can say is that we have our work cut out for us. These people really are almost to the point of worshiping him. And if you dare utter words outside of the Obamantra, they come unhinged. This cult of personality is downright scary.

I didn’t watch his speech last night – once you’ve heard ‘nothing’ in other speeches, why hear it again? It’s as Yogi Berra once said when addressing the press after a ballgame: “Boys, I got nothing to say, and I’m only going to say it once.” In this case, it’s: “My fellow Democrats, I’ve got nothing to say, and I’m going to repeat it over and over and over and over.”
I’m not all that worried – I don’t predict much of a bump for Obama after their convention, and I’m hoping the GOP convention hits home run after home run. Now if McCain blows it on his VP pick (and I’ve heard it’s Gov Pawlenty), then all bets are off.

I rarely watch television and would rather have a root canal than endure more hot air from the junior sen. from IL.
However, it seems that the momentum now shifts away from the man who should be a Chicago alderman to that of grilling hot dogs and burgers on this last holiday weekend of summer; and then into the more novel Republican convention in the Berkley-Madison of Minnesota, that is known as Minneapolis.
Aside from the news of master plagiarist, Joe Biden, speculation on the unpredictable Clintons, and the vast bottomless maw of Nancy Pelosi and her unintentional sabotage of abortion, the Democratic Convention had all the excitement of second growth dandelions going to seed.
Sure, Barack will bounce…and just like the fabric softner use up all his cloying scent…and become just another tissue in the laundry waste basket.
Remember all the excitement about the candidacy of Governor Michael Dukakis? You do remember, right? 1988?

I found it interesting that the examples of those family members who shaped his life were all white.
Why is he running as the “black” candidate, again?

Tony, the keen and obvious observation you make isn’t really all that interesting when one remembers which audience he was targeting that video memoir towards- oops!
“Goo goo ga joob.” That sort of math.

LOL! Enjoyed the list of possible speech titles! 🙂

Has anyone figured out what America’s “promise” is? I mean, I know what the “American dream” is, but the promise he kept referring to without defining left everyone at my house a bit puzzled (and by a “bit puzzled” I mean “highly confused”).
