Chris Wallace said “A Star is Born.” Nina Eason said “a homerun.” Wolf Blitzer said “A Star is Born.” Even the lunatic Keith Olberman admitted that somewhere somehow could like something like this.
Sarah Palin needed a home run and she delivered. I’m thrilled. More later…
And a note -that little girl is the cutest kid. And it was so great that her father trusted her to hold the baby.
UPdate: CNN this morning did a two minute story on how the Palin family passed the baby around from the Dad, to the 17 year old daughter, to Cindy McCain, and then to the little one. How messed up is that?
Also, CNN ran a scathing response to Palin’s speech from…Gloria Steinem. Gloria Steinem? She’s about as relevant as Abbe Hoffman. Where do they get the idea that she’s relevant to anyone?
Update Update: Palin was essentially the antithesis of Obama last night. Earthy. Compare the line of Palin’s about pit bulls, hockey Mom’s and lipstick to such high falutin’ rhetoric like “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.” One makes people say that guy gives a good speech, the other makes you like the person. There’s a difference there. It may be very important.
Update Update Update: I’ve heard the media describe Bristol Palin’s fiance as “her baby’s Father” a few times. Two things. First, couldn’t they just say “fiance?” Secondly, hey, the media’s admitting that it’s a baby in Bristol Palin’s womb. That’s a step up isn’t it?
For really great in-depth analysis of last night visit The Anchoress. She’s really great on this.

It was outstanding! And THAT is the all-American family.

Did you see the little girl lick her hand and wet the baby’s hair!?
Classic! I love it!

Johnny B,
I caught that as well! Very cute and endearing.
This speech was near perfect.
If McCain wins, Palin played a very important part in it.

I am very impressed by her calmness and direct attitude. She hit a homerun with me…I’ll have reaction later.
She has a great sense of humor i got a kick out of her mocking of Obama
September 4, 2008 at 11:38 am
How is it that conservatives have so much better senses of humour than the left?
Obama and Biden was all whinge whinge, bitter griping….
Palin and Guiliani made them look … well … ridiculous…
A wonderful performance…
September 4, 2008 at 11:45 am
How many of the pundits afterward went out of their way to explain that Palin didn’t write the speech. Weird…that is, until you heard Obama’s statement which mentioned that very fact.
They literally took it as their own talking point.

Just so, everyone! I haven’t been this excited about a candidate since Ronald Reagan of happy, happy memory.

She delivered – great blend of narrative, build-up of McCain and ‘pit bull with lipstick’ toughness. I cheered when she remarked How can a man find time to write two memoirs yet author zero legislation while in the Senate? Awesome

A great moment on CNN last night. During the panel discussion someone gave a very somber analysis that Palin “excited the right”. Then someone else mentioned that Palin did not write her speech. Typical CNN fare.
But then, here comes Anderson Cooper. He jumped in and said, directly to the person who made the comment, “at the Democratic convention you never talked about Obama exciting the left. Why call the republican convention ‘the right.’ And also, let’s just be fair, Palin didn’t write her own speech, and neither did Obama, neither did Hillary,…” The panel got reeeaaaal quiet. It was a beautiful smackdown, and they didn’t even try to respond.
Make no mistake, the liberal media will try to destroy Palin. She is a very serious threat to their success.

The Libertarian Party just received my vote and dollars and perhaps, even, time.

I think that little girl won her mommy lots and lots of votes!!!
September 4, 2008 at 4:47 pm
I was at the Nutter Center in Dayton for the introduction of Palin. I told my husband that if they wanted to win the election they just needed to put the 7 year old out front and let her wave to everyone. She won me over that day. It was very obvious that this little girl was extremely close to her mommy.
I loved seeing the motherhood of Cindy McCain come out while she was holding the baby. She was so entralled with the baby that she probably didn’t hear a word that was being said by the speaker!

It’s this sort of lunacy that is driving me out of the Republican party. I was extremely close to my mother (may she rest in peace) and she to hers, and my daughters are extremely close to me. What does this have to do with being prepared to run a country?!!!
I was never too thrilled with McCain, but his VP choice cinched it for me. He’s not capable of being president. And her reception at the RNC cinched it for me…I’m outa’ here.
Her snide remarks about community organizers were so inappropriate. I was a community organizer when she was in diapers. I was beaten and arrested trying to gain blacks the right to vote. How DARE she imply that community organizers don’t have responsibilities!! Many put their lives on the line.

But the Republicans had your vote until last night? Ha! Give me a break. Go back to the Daily Kos.
September 4, 2008 at 6:57 pm
Anthony, I presume your comment was directed to me. I don’t know what the Daily Kos is or where it is. As for my vote, you are correct, I was on the fence with McCain. I left the Democratic Party with the Reagan revolution. I was never comfortable with McCain as a candidate. He’s too much of a hawk. But even though I worked sixteen years in the civil rights movement, I wasn’t going to vote for Obabam. He doesn’t have the necessary experience!
Last night confirmed for me that this country is going to h*** in a handbasket. If these two tickets are the best and brightest that the U.S. has to offer, then perhaps we deserve to go the way of Rome. Open the walls to the barbarians? They’re already here! We’ve sold our souls to accumulation of power and corporate greed.
September 4, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Anne O’Neill, I don’r believe you are for real.
But on the chance that you are , I would think being what you claim to have been would provide you with a thicker skin that your petty qualms show.
Maccain was too much of hawk but Reagan wasn’t ?? Did you listen to any of Reagans speeches about the U.S.S.R.?
Palin makes a crack about Obama”s claim to be qualified to run the country and that gets you twisted??
Mrs. Palin has a record of fighting corporations and their greed, where are you going with that?
As for going the “way of Rome and opening the gates to barbarians” …those barbarians were converted to Christ.

Yes, Anonymous, there is an Ann O’Niell.
I should have stated that McCain’s too much of a hawk and I mistrust his late-found prolife commitment.
I joined the Reagan revolution on the merits of his eloquence on the right to life. Yes, I was a Democrat and an active one at that. I spent years working in dangerous conditions registering voters and organizing blacks in furthering education, jobs, and health opportunities. I worked on the 1972 Chisholm campaign, but was appalled by the Democratic support of the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
I suppose I stuck with the Democrats out of habit, until Reagan came along. True, I was scandalized by his USSR bravado and wrote protest letters regarding Granada, but I hoped that he (and the Republican Party) would work to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Here we are 28 years later, and I have had it. With a majority of the Supreme Court justices being Roman Catholics, why hasn’t the Bush administration put forth a challenge to RvW? If GW Bush hasn’t done it, why should I think McCain would? And if, God forbid, something would happen to McCain, I have serious doubts whether Palin has the ability to take over the oval office, much less, put together an effective strategy for overturning Roe v. Wade.
Yes, I am ticked off by Palin’s snarky remarks about Obama’s community organizing. I took it personally. I was beaten and jailed. Though I did not personally know Cheney, Schwerner, and Cheney. I knew and those I worked with knew we could end up like them.
I think Palin’s claims to be a fiscal hawk and her reforms are disingenuous. She certainly campaigned for governership as being in favor of “the bridge to nowhere.” Once she decided she was no longer in favor of it, she did not return the funds received, and her administration still continues to build the road to the bridge to nowhere. I don’t think she is in the least bit qualified to be VP. Also, as mayor of Wassila Palin took the the town into substantial debt and left it there to become governor.
I have always consider myself conservative on prolife and Church matters. If the the rest of the conservatives on this blog have no room for a retired civil rights worker, than count me a liberal.
Like Fannie Lou Hamer, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
September 4, 2008 at 10:01 pm
Ok. I count you as a liberal. Tell Obama hi from us Catholics.
September 5, 2008 at 12:01 am
I already said that there was no way that I’d vote for Obama, even though I am pleased that a person of color has finally received a place on a national ticket. He doesn’t have enough experience and he’s too radically pro-choice, and he wants to escalate troops in Afghanistan.
I’ve been looking for a Catholic blog that holds conservative values such as protection of life from cradle to grave. My daughter suggested this one. I suppose she was mistaken. Are there any conservative blogs that are witty and balanced?

Ummm… The Libertarian Party is NOT Pro-Life. They believe in a “let anything and everything go” attitude, “just don’t bother me.” They are Pro-Abortion, Pro-Gay Marriage, Pro-Legalizing Drugs, Pro-Legalizing Prostitution, etc., etc., etc. If someone wants to do those things, they can go right ahead. THAT is the social policy stance of the LP.
If you are so Pro-Life, Ann, then the Libertarian Party ain’t the place for you, that’s for sure.
