Yes, please keep on telling me how analogies that compare our new Dear Leader to the fascist with the little mustache are way off base and totally inappropriate.
Chairman MaObama now wants a mandatory youth corps. Hmmm? That sounds familiar…
Remember, Dear Leader recently told us how he wants “A Civilian Security Force just as well funded as the military”
Infanticide, a well funded federally controlled civilian security force, and a mandatory youth corps. Right, those analogies are way off, just my imagination.
Update****
Apparently they react when you shine a light into the darkness. Dear Leader has likely executed the pawn who accidently said what they really mean. The officially approved truth of the day has now been modified for general consumption.

Good luck. If I can’t get my kids to pick up their dirty laundry, I’d like to see Obama try and get them go out and get them to pick up roadside litter.
Oh.
Wait.
He’ll get my kids to make sure I pick up their dirty laundry and roadside litter. Crud.

I’m unclear on one concept, though: do we address each other as “Comrade” or as “brother” and “sister?”

That comment is out of line, christopher michael.

…requiring, lol, what’s Obama going to do have a time sheet?

Oh, NO!! Barack Obama is taking cues from…from…
…from CATHOLIC DIRECTORS OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION!!!

It should be fairly easy to rack up 100 hours of community service every year. We shall see how this whole thing goes.

Patrick,
Thanks for removing my last…
J. Christian,
You don’t get to tell me what is and is not out of line. Who are you?

There’s nothing odd with required community service. That being said, 100 hours for each college year?! C’mon, people spend enough time in college as it is.
I found the passage anonymous quoted more alarming.
Side note: I didn’t know president-elects had an office and an official government site… Amazing how this man is campaigning even after the election.
November 8, 2008 at 2:07 am
He changed it! It now reads:
“Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free.”

The question isn’t really how easy it is for minors to do 50 hours of community service a year–the question is whether the *government,* or anyone else other than their own parents or legal guardians, has the power to *require* them to do any such thing.
November 8, 2008 at 2:24 am
He did indeed change it…which does not bode well.
November 8, 2008 at 2:34 am
power of the blogosphere? any msm coverage of this “change”? 🙂
Maybe that’s what he meant by his slogan…”I get to CHANGE my mind, my plan, my policies, as I see fit.”
November 8, 2008 at 3:15 am
Thank goodness you got a screenshot of this, because everyone on the left is only seeing the CHANGEd version now, and they’re saying “what do you have against encouraging our youth to give back to the community? What do you have against getting college $$ for community service?”
November 8, 2008 at 3:20 am
My high school senior already does over 100 hours per year per his choice in our community, his school, and our parish. He does it because he wants to make the world a better place, not because anyone has told him to do so. Making people volunteer will only cause resentment.
We must pray and pray and pray for Obama.
Blessed Be God Forever!

Proposals for non-military national service have been brought before Congress at one time or another for the last thirty years. Obama is not the first to have proposed them. What is unprecedented, is the amount of attention being drawn to the proposals.
At far as national service goes, I recommend an organization I proudly serve, the Boy Scouts. Since 1910, they have been called upon for National Good Turns. They can be called upon again by the man who, by virtue of his newly-elected position, is also the Honorary President of the BSA.
I should add that such national service has nothing to do with politics. It never has.

christopher michael,
I am someone who pointed out that what you said was unacceptable. Apparently the administrators of this blog thought so, too, because they removed your post.
Tell me, do you want the Secret Service investigating your statements?
November 8, 2008 at 4:23 am
I dare say, Mr. Alexander, beyond the attention is the compulsory nature of the service, ostensibly in Obama approved “corps.”
I do believe that all can agree that volunteer service is laudatory, however compulsory volunteerism is an oxymoron. As such, it merits the attention, compulsory makes it political. Wouldn’t you agree?
