Yes, please keep on telling me how analogies that compare our new Dear Leader to the fascist with the little mustache are way off base and totally inappropriate.
Chairman MaObama now wants a mandatory youth corps. Hmmm? That sounds familiar…
Remember, Dear Leader recently told us how he wants “A Civilian Security Force just as well funded as the military”
Infanticide, a well funded federally controlled civilian security force, and a mandatory youth corps. Right, those analogies are way off, just my imagination.
Update****
Apparently they react when you shine a light into the darkness. Dear Leader has likely executed the pawn who accidently said what they really mean. The officially approved truth of the day has now been modified for general consumption.

J. Christian,
Yeah, I’m sure the Secret Service is constantly vetting this blog for possible threats against national security. Hahaha… I was merely making a theoretical remark on morality.

That is why we theoretically deleted it.

Patrick,
You deleted it because the Secret Service is constantly vetting your blog for threats against national security? Wow… I’m impressed.

At my HS we were required so many hours of community service to graduate. I dont’ recall many complaints. I think this is a great idea.
Plus – I would have loved the option of doing community service in college to earn money for college rather than end up with the loans I have now. Too bad I’m not a bit younger right now!

I’m sure the Obama people are looking at this alleged ‘typo’. I hear they’re forming a Committee of Public Safety to ensure the people, err, these mistakes don’t happen again.
Vive le revolucione!

Look, anon, the point is not that its a bad idea for kids (or anyone) to do community service hours. The point of this post is that its a big step from that to a federal government mandate for every student in the country.
Folks who can’t see ‘liberal’ written all over that proposal are already brainwashed.

Who will monitor and record all this community service? And what about transportation to and from – not everyone has a car. What a nightmare! I can envision many forged community service documents, and schools scrambling to create volunteer opportunities so students can graduate. It’s just not practical. No Child Left Behind is struggling, now we add this?! Delusional.

Alexandra:
First, breathe deeply.
Now then…
It is a fact of the human condition, that virtually anything that can go wrong with something, eventually will. The “what ifs” you have broached could happen to any one of a number of endeavors that have been with us for some time now. This would be no different.
That said, I invite you to read what I wrote earlier. Obama is NOT (!!!!!) the first person to bring up this sort of thing. No, really. He’s not. Not even close. What’s more, and like damn near everything else he wants to do, he will need the approval of Congress, which would appropriate funds for it. (George Soros can’t pay for everything.) And anyone who thinks this president will have an indefinite rubber stamp from Congress, has a lot to learn about Congress.
Because even for Obama, the honeymoon is going to end. It just might take longer, and he might do a bit more damage before then, but it will end. It always does.

David mentioned the very honorable organization, Boy Scouts of America. I have 2 boys as well as my husband deeply involved in Scouting. But I fear that such things as Scouting will not sit well with the kind of service Obama suggests.

Barb:
The BSA has the benefit of a congressional charter, and a great deal of support on the Hill, across party lines. As President of the United States, Obama would also be the Honorary President of the BSA. That means he gets to come and give a speech at our national jamboree in 2010.
We’ll show him a real good time. That oughta bring him around.

Who will monitor and record all this community service?
My guess is ACORN.
And every two years, kids across the fruited plain will be registering new voters to cast their ballot for Democratic candidates.

I dont think the forced voluntary service that Obama wants to set in motion is consititutional. The 13th Amendment says that “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction” Doesnt that nix the idea of forced service?

Sheesh, you really need to get a grip. And psychiatric counseling. And more than likely, some very strong drugs. Soon.
