The Archbold’s are very excited to see Jack Bauer back. So when it was on the other night we were all glued to the television watching Jack capture criminals and then break them out again all for the good of the country. During a commercial break I ran out to the kitchen and overheard this from the two very Catholic women in my living room:
Christian Woman 1: I didn’t know Janeane Garafolo was on 24 this season.
Christian Woman 2: Yeah, I hope she turns out to be a traitor so she gets whacked quick.
Christian Woman 1: Yeah. Me too.
I would’ve scolded them but I’m afraid of being a hypocrite. Is this wrong?

I had to chuckle that the moral conundrum is over two people wanting to see a character played by a particular actress bite the dust, and not over Bauer’s rampant use of torture and violence. That said, it’s a pretty exciting show, and it is just a show, so neither’s really a big deal.
You could always pull a, “Hey now….” — doesn’t go into a full reprimand, just kind of trickles off, but does suggest all is not aright.

For some reason this reminds me of a joke told regarding the “troubles” in Ireland.
A young Irishman goes to confession one Saturday. He begins, “Bless me Father, I have sinned. Since my last confession I’ve taken part in the ambush of several British soldiers.” He pauses, there is no response.
Feeling the priest may not have been paying attention he states, “Father, we killed five men. I personally shot two of them meself.”
Still no answer. Wondering now if the priest may have fainted or otherwise been stricken by such a blunt confession, the man says in a loud voice, “FATHER, ARE YE THERE?”
From behind the screen comes a voice, “Indeed I am my son, and I’m waiting for you to stop discussing politics and get on with your confession.”

True story from college. My friend comes up to me and says, “What does it mean if you cheat on an ethics test?”
I laughed out loud as that’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. Then I notied he wasn’t laughing. He was serious and confused. He really cheated on an ethics test.

I guess you all know something about her that I don’t know. All I think I know about her is that she played the vet in The Truth about Cats and Dogs and was good in that movie.
From your reaction, I guess she must be loudly proabortion or something.
I don’t think we should pay much attention to the political opinons of actors and actresses. Some of them with terrible opinions are very good at their craft. Thinking about their politics could only spoil one’s enjoyment of their acting.
Anyway, you weren’t really wishing for the death of an actual person.
However, praying for their conversion would be a much better idea.

An interesting side note to this story. Apparently she was asked how she felt about playing an FBI agent. She said “My initial reaction was, ugh, never. Then I said, what the hell, I’m unemployed.”

I had no idea who that actress was; never heard of her, nor seen her before —- but, the minute we saw her, my husband and I looked at each other with an “understanding”….

So, since my husband missed the first 4 episodes last weekend, we had 24 immersion last night. 3 more to go till next Monday. :-))) Yeah! Of course, I don’t mind it one bit that I get to watch them over.
And by the way, you all knew that you can watch all this on the computer with far fewer commercial interruptions, didn’t you? You never have to miss another episode ever again!

I teach Morality to high school juniors – I caught two of them cheating on a test and the significance of it was lost on them as well. (there was even a question for them to analyze the action of cheating!)

I just finished watching the first four episodes of season 7 as streaming video on my computer. It was wonderful to have only the briefest of commercial breaks.

At the risk of sounding like a nerdy postulate at a Star Trek convention, I only just got into 24 about a year ago as they played the DVD’s in the background when I started giving blood…since then I’ve been hooked (nyuck nyuck nyuck). Shortly afterwards however, the writers strike began and so I never got to see a live season of it. And now I’m back in Europe so I’m trying to do the FOX on-demand thing.
So, yes, that Janean Garofalo character should die a horrible and painful death. Er…I mean the character she plays. Now that she’s not shtupping Gary Sandler anymore, one has to wonder how she still gets jobs in Hollywood anyway. It sure isn’t on her looks or talent.
