CMR loves to help Catholic Universities so the CMR Band has proposed new lyrics to the Notre Dame Fight Song which we feel more accurately portrays the current state of Notre Dame considering they’ve accepted President Obama as their commencement speaker.

Perhaps more than anything, it is classless and contributes absolutely nothing to the issue at hand.

It is not 1/100th as classless as the university’s inviting Obama in the first place.
What the song contributes to the issue at hand is, in principle at least, the same thing that all satire or parody does — mock that which is worthy of mockery, and show to the institution and/or those loyal to it how others perceive this folly as reflecting upon the institution.

I’m a huge fan of Notre Dame (and NOT just the football team), although I’m not an alumnus. But I do hope my children will attend some day.
That said, those “offended” by this parody desperately need to get over themselves.

Actually, to a far more important point about this parody.
The words don’t quite fit the tune and beat of the existing lyrics, unless in several places you linger over a syllable for two beats or try to cram two into one beat. For example, you need a two-syllable word where you have “great” in the first line of the second verse. Here’s my suggested rewrite:

I also read on Fox News channel that Fr. Jenkins says something like, even though he is pro choice , that is not the teachings of Notre Dame.[if that is the right word]Ridiculus, They have pro choice clubs on that campus. He[FR. Jenkins] is also in deep water W/ His Grace Bp. D’arcy over allowing the V monolougs on a CATHOLIC campus. THere is more on it on the American TFP website is anyone is interested.
