One Father Longenecker, who opines on something called a “blog” which I understand were invented by and flourish among red necked Americans, blusters about something called “The Bitter Pill.” Not entirely sure to what he is referring, but do go give it a look will you?
Do let us know what you think. We so much enjoy the opinions of simple folk such as yourselves.

Surely you’ve heard of the ‘Bitter Pill’ or the ‘Tablet’ to its friends. Once an orthodox paper now a … well words fail me. Attacked Fr. Finnegan of the ‘Hermemuitic of Continuity’ blog recently.

“particularly among the political and religious right wing.”
To paraphrase St. Thomas Aquinas, “What was written is more
important than who wrote it.”
“Generally, blogs are far from an idealized (sic) forum for an
exchange of intelligent ideas that would be constructive. ”
Blogs may be far from an ideal forum, but it is a forum accessible
to those who make not make it to talk shows and debates. But
even those are far from ideal.
“More often they indulge in straight poison-pen character
assassination without reference to any requirements of accuracy
or balance.”
The requirements of accuracy or balance may not be met in a blog,
but how it that different from the editorials and commentaries in
the printed media? The character assassination or ad hominem
arguments are pretty obvious and diminishes only the weight of
the commentator’s arguments.

I actually agreed with the comment over there that the Tablet staff really might NOT think much about blogs…
My dad’s a reporter and he just can’t get his head around blogs. He doesn’t read them. He doesn’t see how they could be of interest, unless they’re something like “The Corner” (an outlet of a respected publication, no comments, the only posters are journalists.)
I can’t even get him to give INSTAPUNDIT a try!
As far as I can tell, it’s a journalist thing and an age thing…. For him, blogs are a new-fangled kid thing, like twitter and facebook…..
At least he’s adjusted to email!

What some people across the pond do not get is that free speech is important for the hoi polloi in America. Priests with pulpits do not have the monopoly of truth and are certainly wrong when they support a pro-abortion politician. It also puts gay-liberal-in-bred-false-prophets on notice because they can easily be exposed by the commoners (oh my goodness gracious!)
