It has now been confirmed that President Obama will have an audience with Pope Benedict XVI on July 10th. In preparation for the momentous visit, the crack White House protocol office has sent the President a list of gifts to choose from.
After a series of embarrassing gaffes surrounding wildly inappropriate and narcissistic gifts given to heads of State, the President is determined to get this one right. These are the gifts that Obama has settled on.

I'm so glad bloggers from my own Roman Catholic faith can be so hilarious. And so incredibly moronic.
I'm sorry that I didn't enjoy this blog, but it just makes me really angry to see and read about people from our Catholic Church take anger out on other people.
What happened to evangelization and being disciples of Christ? Why do we criticize others when we don't even criticize ourselves? Why aren't we talking about why so many (self-proclaimed) Catholics voted for this President? (I know I am about to make an assumption that the main reason why you are attacking Obama is because of his stance on pro-life… but bear with me, I have a point) Why aren't we talking about why more and more Catholics are increasingly less interested in pro-life issues? Obama is not the problem. He was elected by US citizens; many of them Catholic US citizens. Why are we attacking him? Why aren't we talking to each other about why pro-life issues ARE of the utmost importance? And I'm not referring to talking to your best friend, neighbor, or priest, who already agrees wholeheartedly in pro-life issues. Why aren't we reaching out to others in our Church who no longer think pro-life issues are so important?
I feel like I should have just bit my tongue and moved on tonight. But I feel like if we just worked together and united as a Church, we could get so much more accomplished. What is going to be accomplished from bashing other people who don't share our beliefs (in any way)? I don't know, but I don't think a lot will happen. Do you think Obama read this blog tonight and decided, oh hey, I really think I should listen to the Catholic Church now. But what could be accomplished if we took the time to engage with and talk to our brothers and sisters in the Church and unite together in a cause? Again, I don't know, but I feel like we could get a lot more accomplished.

The only reason I wrote anonymously is because I know many people who read this blog and I don't want anyone to be angry with me for even bringing up some of the things I wrote. So, don't call me a troll.
I have a life. A life that thinks about, ponders, and talks about things I question or don't know. What a concept, huh? Some people call that learning. Go ahead and call me out on it, but I guess I'm not out of that learning phase yet.

I love my faith, I love my Church, and all I want is for a stronger, more united Church than we have now. That is the only reason I said anything. If you want to criticize anything, you might as well criticize my intentions. That's why anyone ever says anything anyways, isn't it?

Patrick, I normally enjoy your sense of humor, but this post left a sour taste in my mouth. If you had limited it to the "Great Catholic Movies" and "Catholic Bestsellers", it would have been worth a chuckle. But the rest of it struck me as tasteless and unfunny. So I think the Anonymous poster at 11:01 on 6/23 and 9:17 on 6/24 has a point.
I deeply disagree with our president on life issues; that's why he didn't get my vote. But certain uses of ridicule aren't as harmless as they might seem.
