In a world gone mad – we hang our heads as we witness the family of a former vice presidential candidate ripped apart just for being. We have even seen posts on a prominent liberal site making fun of a special needs child because of the politics of her mother.
Its a world gone mad. Well, maybe not the whole world. Witness the reaction of the crowd at Fenway one Fourth of July when a special needs young man got to sing the national anthem. Part of the way through he ran into a little trouble but carried on with, as the Anchoress says, with a little help from his friends. All 50,000 of them.

Just beautiful…
This country does have heart.
You just have to know where to look…
Thanks so much for sharing.

Well, you knew there had to be a reason Massachusetts hasn't fallen into the sea yet…
Red Sox fans are the best. (OK, I'll give Cubs fans a nod too)
Thanks for posting that.

Wow. Gave me goosebumps and watery eyes.
Like a movie moment. Glad to see this happen in real life. 🙂

Love it! While watching, my youngest popped out of his room and we sang quietly along with them. Awesome! Not enough of us sing this great song these days . . . it was great to hear it sung the way it was meant to be sung: with love and charity!

Its good to know that God has still provided a way to bring out the sweetness in his people: care for his littlest ones.

Allow me to play "Devil's Advocate". People did not condemn Sarah Palin's child. They condemned what they perceived as Palin exploiting her child. Please think about this comment.

I should have the decency to show my name. I should have also qualified "People" as "Serious liberal commentators". I'm trying to help you to see the other side so that you can actually constructively respond.

Should have shown the decency and honesty, rather.

Brian, they see exploitation where she took her child on the campaign trail – just like the other candidates. If these "serious" commentators meant that she referred to her son Trig in pro-Life discussions, then they must also deplore when Obama used his daughters as a reference point explaining his pro-Choice views.
If I sound testy, it's because I just finished re-reading an AP article that ran in my hometown newspaper re: Palin's resignation. There were several unnamed "Alaskan lawmakers" made comments (on a bit of rumor) about her resignation, but only one lawmaker was identified by name because he said something mild. This could not have run in any paper with which I was involved a decade ago. Also, the number of news commentaries that have been moved off the editorial pages or clearly-marked columns is staggering.
I'm going to "constructively respond" to my local paper, but I doubt it will do much good. With subscriptions declining and local politicians trying to secure a presidential visit in 2010, no one wants to rock the boat.
