***This post contains vulgar material that appeared on television. Consider yourself warned. No complaints afterward.***
Honestly folks, I’m not a guy who is easily offended. Nope. I even enjoy off color humor from time to time. But what offends me is when my children are exposed to something vulgar when I am not expecting it. However, even if my children didn’t see this, I would still be offended on behalf of all women. This is really saying something.
Last night I saw an ad for a ladies razor, the Schick Quattro for Women, during prime time television and had to quickly change the channel. Actually, I was so upset that I turned the TV off and sent the kids to bed early. What offended me so? Well the ad which can be viewed at the bottom of this post.
I intended to write a post about the degradation of our culture and the totally inappropriate material that is allowed on TV during regular viewing hours. While searching for the ad, I came across the UK version of the ad and I must say that my jaw hit the ground. It was much, much worse than even the US ad about which I was already offended.
I post the ad here, but please consider yourself forewarned. It is vulgar. The ad is called “Mow the lawn.” I kid you not.
The US version of the ad, while slightly less explicit is in the same vain. I saw this ad during prime time on a cable channel. It boggles the mind how any network would accept an ad like this during prime time, or any time for that matter. This one is called “Bushes.”
Women are obviously the target audience for these vulgar and disgusting ads. I highly recommend that if you are currently a Schick customer that you immediately cease purchasing their products and that you let them know why. Ads like this have no place on television. If you see one of these ads, I also suggest that you contact the network responsible and complain.

I don't think Patrick's point was to say that shaving is a sin. He was questioning whether that advertisement was suitable for prime time.

Unfortunately, guys, I think I have found a more offensive ad than that: behold the awfulness. I first saw it on TV the other day when our Kidsave child was watching children's programming (for kids ages 10 – 14ish).
Let me repeat that again in case anyone missed it: The ad I liked to above is marketed at *children*. It's so awful. I'd love to see you guys do a post about it.

Rachel,
I don't see anyone saying that shaving is a sin. What I do see is some justified bafflement that shaving down there is a) fine to talk about on tv during prime time and b) okay to talk about in front of minors (since it is during prime time).
Just perspective.

Rachel et al:
Yes, it is the influence of porn and "adult material" that has prompted women to shave south of the border (with the exception of those who have had to do so for the sake of a hygiene childbirth). Why else would a woman do this? Can't say it's something I would consider doing unless it was the "current rage" of "nudist fashion." And even then, sorry, I've got far too much common sense because this Tragically Unhip Mom may be unhip, but she is definitely not a ditzy sheeple.
Not to be gross or graphic (sorry guys, I have to be blunt despite all attempts to be ladylike). Not that I'm checking out the average dude, but how many men shave south of the border? Seriously? What's fair is fair, is it not? While we're on this train of logic, I think men should pull a Mel Gibson in What Women Want and then perhaps they'll reconsider the "glamour" of it all.
I was shocked the first time I saw this commercial! WTHeck? Fortunately, my child isn't aware of what the bush shapes meant and I'd honestly like to keep it that way. And perhaps if I hadn't been unintentionally exposed to porn laying out in the open at a client's house, I would've been clueless myself! (Client was subsequently dropped immediately because this homegirl don't play that game!)
As a parent, I should have some control over what age we need to have 'that talk,' but unfortunately Madison Avenue is pushing it all too early for my own personal preference.
We cut the TV off for the summer and it honestly has been very refreshing. (I saw the ad at a friend's house, just in case you're wondering how I saw it with an 'off TV') Unfortunately, even talk radio (conservative) is running ads for "Beta Prostate" and Viagra without seeing an actual physician! What the heck? My child asked me last night "mom, what is intimacy?"
ARRGHGHGHGHHGHG
Combine that with a talk on homosexuality after walking into the grocery store in May (or was it June?) only to be greeted by a huge marketing sign indicating that the grocery store was proud to celebrate gay pride month. WHY?
When are they going to celebrate heterosexual pride month? Still waiting on that one… I'm straight! I'm proud!!!
So seriously, this whole shaving into triangles, landing strips, hearts, circles and initials and sometimes coated with bling bling has me baffled out of my mind as does the ever famous Telly Savalis. WHY??? It's not comfortable nor do I consider it 100% smart or safe.
Just let things be the way God intended them to be. Skip the hairy legs and arm pits, but my goodness…
SHOULDN'T THE ONLY PERSON TO SEE YOU IN THE BUFF BE YOUR SPOUSE???? And if a guy seriously wants his wife to go that route… perhaps he should join her…
Sigh
Just something to think about…
(Sorry Patrick and Matthew, I'll behave in the future)
