I received some photos today of a new church being designed for the parish of St. John in Leesburg, Virginia. With thanks to my friend Michael Franck from Franck and Lohsen architects in Washington, DC. More to come!

I wonder if that's by the same people that did Our Lady of Hope in Sterling, VA. It's really pretty.

The church will be "beautiful" if it is filled with faith-filled, loyal Catholics. Even more beautiful if the EF is being said inside.

I get your point, but let's not succumb to Potestant notion that the beauty of church architecture only depends on the activity of those using it. When it is consecrated, the Holy Spirit dwells theirin. There is a beauty proper to architecture itself– indeed, it will become even more beautiful when used in proper liturgy. But architecture itself, even when not being used for Mass, is, as the Catechism says, symbolizes God and man reconciled and therefore participates in Beauty.

Beautiful! I wish he could do some work out here in Michigan… We have too much of the "church as ampitheater" archetecture here.

Any idea of when it will be completed?

It's a long way off. They're still raising the funds and they have pledges for a portion of it, but they need either 50 or 60 percent in the DIAL account before they can break ground.
This is mostly the vision of the current pastor, Fr. Mosimann.
I would also point to St. Theresa parish in Ashburn Virginia (same diocese are OLH and St. John the Apostle, in fact, it is geographically between the two) which should be dedicated in November.

It looks beautiful. It also looks very traditional, until you look closely. The altar is not placed in such a way that allows for celebration of the extraordinary (Traditional Latin) as well as the ordinary form of the Mass. Since the parish has a monthly celebration of the TLM at its old historic church closer to town, it's not as if they don't see this coming.
It's a good thing they're a long way off from breaking ground. They need to revisit this part of the plan. They'll thank themselves later.

That's all well & good. But come on!! No one will be able to fit in there……….Unless these people in VA ar the size of Thumbalina.

I can vouch for the orthodoxy and clear focus of Fr. Mosimann, who instructed my wife-to-be in RCIA while she was displaced after Hurricane Katrina.

Oh please, please, please send some of that about 90 miles down I-95 to us poor Richmonders, where some tradition and orthodoxy is so badly needed.

I have no doubt that the Holy Spirit blesses The Big Tin Barn Post Office Wal-Mart structures that so blight the land, but that is no excuse for us building them.
