Like many of you, I watched and prayed yesterday as the reports came through that a six year old boy was in a runaway balloon. I, like you, was puzzled when he wasn’t found in the balloon. And I, like you, was relieved when he was found alive.

However, the first thing that popped into my head after the relief settled makes me probably not like you. The first thing I thought was that this whole thing is just like Obamacare.

Let’s look at it. The media took us on a wild ride following some bright shiny thing in the sky. However, the whole thing was paper thin and full of hot air from the beginning. But we continued to follow that big bright shiny thing in the promise that when it landed we would all be happy.

But then the big bright shiny thing in the sky began to deflate. It began to list to one side. Slowly it lost its momentum and began to fall. Eventually it came crashing to the ground. Men and women, like the tea-partiers before them, ran after ran after it, tied it down, and hacked at it with pitchforks to make sure that it would never fly again.

But that elation turned to puzzlement as we realized that there was really nothing there in the first place. Just when we thought that we had saved the day and all would be well, we were left with a deflated and beaten trial balloon.

Meanwhile, the ones who had concocted the lie were alive and well and secretly hidden away the entire time. The media had us so focused on the big shiny lie in the sky, that we never bothered to see what was going on in the attic and behind closed doors.

Now that the trial balloon has been destroyed, the architects of the big lie in the sky want to do it again, convinced that this time they know how to avoid the pitchforks.

So here the story stands. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think that we should let the liars build any more big shiny things full of hot air and built on lies. Let’s not accept any more lies. Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice, shame on us.
