I was surprised this morning but my parish didn’t mention Congress’ healthcare plan as requested by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. My parish is very strongly pro-life but today we had a visiting priest so there might have been some lack of communication.
I’ll ask my pastor about it during the week.
As you know, the USCCB asked every parish in the United States of America to distribute materials and make an appeal to mobilize the Catholic faithful concerning the fundamental and foundational human right to life being ignored in the current healthcare legislation.
Did your parish participate? If so, to what extent?

Check out Fr. Z's poll on the same.

Yes, mentioned; yes, insert; also a mail-in card campaign requesting congress follow the bishops on this.

Nothin' here in northern NH. Nothin' in Atlanta, GA, either I hear…

At St. Peter parish in Volo, IL (administered by the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius), Father mentioned the issue just before his homily, and encouraged us all to pick up the insert with the bulletin, stacked beside them. He also included the topic in the general intercessions.

Nothing at the parish we visited today, not in homily, not in bulletin…
But our priest at our home parish, St Thomas the Apostle in Phoenix, gave a resounding pro-life homily several weeks ago, and so did another parish that surprised me, to be honest.

St. Jude in Allen, TX had the insert and our pastor spoke about it from the altar. Describing himself as "apolitical" he went on to say there had been no trouble with sending the email to his Congressional representative and congressmen. His implication was that no one had an excuse for not sending it, i.e. "If I can do it, anyone can!"

Incarnation in Centerville, OH did a minimal effort. We had the website listed in the bulletin (no insert) and a mention of it at the end of Mass. I have to say that I'm not surprised.

My church in Springfield, Il had a full page insert in the bulletin and Fr. highlighted some things about it at the end of Mass, however the church my husband had to go to this weekend had nothing and no mention of it either. We also are hoping it will be there next week.

St. Benedict in Richmond, Va: We didn't have an insert this week (our priest has swine flu!), but our parish did give out information about canditates for the election. Also, we've had several inserts, prayers of the faithful, and parts of several homilies dedicated to health care reform. Our pastor does a great job communicating the issues to our parish.

We didn't go to our normal parish, but there was nothing in the bulletin on the website. The parish we did attend said nothing (which didn't surprise us, frankly).

Actually had some the insert and a mention of it during the homily at Latin Mass up in Dayton.
We also had petition cards against the measure to the Dayton Congressman (Mike Turner) and the two Ohio Senators.

Holy Cross, Garrett Park, MD. Nada and no bulletin insert.

St. Peter's in Omaha had bulletin information and announcements…plus we've been praying about healthcare reform without violating conscience clauses and without funding abortion for weeks during the Prayers of the Faithful. Way to go Fr. Damien!

Nothing from the Archdiocese of Denver. Doesn't seem like there was enough time to get this done. Archbishop Chaput's reputation is well known concerning health care.

never…they are Jesuits that think Obama is the messiah next to Jesus.
November 2, 2009 at 12:53 am
Nothing said during the homily at St. Maurice in Pittsburgh. Seemed like the directive came too late for inserts, etc.
I expect something will come next week…knowing our pastor, I'd be very surprised if parisioners weren't informed as soon as reasonably possible.

I live behind the enemy lines in NJ (Diocese of Trenton) – it's best to keep quiet about these sorts of things. Lest pro-aborts in the pews revolt and withhold their weekly contribution. I've never once heard my parish priest speak out against abortion, but apparently he thinks Obama is great (try sitting through that homily!).

Rockville, MD. Nothing nowhere no how.

As expected, our pastor mentioned it and encouraged us all to contact our senators and representatives to let them know what we expect of them. Thanks to the link you posted last week, I sent the e-mails already and already received a form reply from one of our senators (Al Franken), with his typical reference to our so-called need for "family planning services"–including those that limit "unwanted pregnancies." It was pretty much what I expected of Franken (and our other senator, Amy Klobuchar), but I hope he and all the Congressman get swamped with e-mails and letters from Catholics and other pro-lifers all over the country.
And I love my parish, too!

Trenton,NJ struggler and other fifth columnist for life, "What if the pro-lifers stop supporting the Satanic priests?" Maybe, just maybe, you'll get their attention and then they might start preaching God's Truth again.
