The Catholic Action Network has been quite busy lately protesting the church’s stand against gay marriage. No surprise there. The group describes itself as “a network of progressive Catholics seeking justice both in the Catholic Church and in the world.”
Well, today they’re holding a workshop called the “Creative and Liberating Liturgies Workshop Facilitated by Victoria Rue, Ph.D.” Rue claims to be an ordained Roman Catholic priest as well as a feminist and lesbian.
Sorry I didn’t inform you of this earlier as it’s scheduled for today. Just imagine the hilarity of sending some CMR readers to this workshop with some hidden cameras. I know you’re kicking yourself for not signing up for it earlier but if you read this you’ll get a pretty good feel for what’s going on.
Oddly, even though it’s a liturgy workshop I didn’t see the word “Tridentine” mentioned anywhere in their application form but there were a few mentions of “a sense of shared presence” and “Feminist ritual” as you might imagine.
CAN warns:
Bring your frustrations, your hopes and a willingness to explore new paths. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that would allow you to engage in movement.
The Learning Goals of the seminar are what, you might ask? Get ready. This is where you get on the express to Crazy Town. Keep your hands outside the vehicle at all times because otherwise you might be tempted to pull out your hair.
Learning Goals:
•To provide participants with seeds that can flower into ideas and inspirations for their own creation of liturgies
•To offer theatre skills that can be utilized in creative and liberating liturgies such as characterization, improvisation, monologue writing.
•To understand and appreciate the value of embodied worship as well as experience it as vital to a worshipping community
•To challenge each participant to dream and act anew for the renewal of ourselves, our communities and our world.
Druid attire is optional, I guess.
Come on folks. A bunch of druidesses raising beer steins while shouting incantations in pig latin doesn’t make it Mass.
Mind you, not one mention of Jesus anywhere but what were you expecting? I mean, what’s the meaning of this talk about “seeds that can flower into ideas?” Are they admitting that they can only aspire to “seeds” that one day maybe kinda’ could perhaps become a full fledged idea?
And all this talk of monologue and improvisation sounds like a bad version of Jay Leno or maybe a really boring version of “Rent.” Oh wait…
And what does “embodied worship” mean? Sign me up for disembodied worship. I’ll just tell them I astrally projected myself to the workshop instead of actually having to show up. And I won’t have to wait on those long airport lines.
But wait. Here’s the best part. The question at the bottom of the form is for lunch.
Are you a Vegetarian or Vegan?:
Yes! I can honestly say I’ve never attended anything where they even had to ask me that question. Probably never will unless McDonald’s brings back the Veggie burger.
Mad Props to Saint Louis Catholic for this one. Check him out over there. There was a really funny comment too saying “You didn’t mention that way down on the bottom it says B.Y.O.B. “Bring Your Own BROOM.”

"There are other religious groups where they'd be a perfect fit yet they insist instead on being dissident Catholics."
You hit the nail on the head. It's all about THEM and what special little snowflakes they are. Pretending to be Catholic means they get to sit around and cry about how oppressed and hated they are, which, in actuality, is exactly what they want.
Read through the "womenpriest" websites. Nary a mention of Christ, but they sure love to talk about themselves and how super special and unique they are.
I vacillate between being amused and being disgusted.
"Get your own religion instead of bastardizing everyone else's, Rue baby."
EXACTLY!!!

What I don't understand is why the pretend-priestesses don't just up and become Episcopalians. Although one time I did hear one comment that she couldn't because Anglicans didn't have valid Holy Orders. How ironic.

This woman is neither a priest or a Catholic. Her gender precludes her from being the first and her views prevent her from being the second… she has excomunicated herself.
Really this woman and others like her just does not get the fact that the Church is not a democracy where things are open to negotiation. Please pray for them that they may see the error of their ways before it is too late.

Why do they do what they do? Best to ask them.
My guess is they think they see things clearer and are serving the community by spearheading the advancement of the Church according to their paradigm. They may be sincere and are willing to sacrifice themselves for the cause. I wish they would look at the saints, some of whom have seen the truth before the Church discerned it; these people stood down and obeyed their superiors and were later vindicated. Maybe they're thinking that like Luther, they can become a catalyst of change. So, I recommend deep breaths and visualising a happy place at this point. And this can be our penance for today as it is Friday.

For some this might be a next step after, "I think, therefore I am."
In this case it would be, "I think I am Catholic, therefore I am."
Too bad that sort of thing doesn't work. If it did we'd all be "thinking" we were millionaires.

Hey! Did you guys know you're getting major props from Sheila Liaugminas on Relevant Radio today for your Tiger Woods/Buick posting?

Oh what Katie said, I love it "It's all about THEM and what special little snowflakes they are. Pretending to be Catholic…" spot on! Wish I'd said and all that. Snowflakes, flakes for sure.
I want to be kind and godly and Christ-like and say that I am moved to pray for these souls who are "wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked" but honestly I just want to say, Yes, let the "Good Times" roll, and roll as far as H E double hockey sticks away from me as possible.

Any time you're out from under –
Not gettin' hassled, not gettin' hustled
Keepin' your head above water!
Makin' a wave when you can!
Oh, I'm sorry, I saw "Good Times" and I sort of lost my train of thought. What we were discussing?

This impostor was spotted on CathCon as well. Take a look:

She really likes the red scarf-stoles.

I can't believe no one's made a "From good times to goo times" joke yet.

The article stated that the conference will be held by Victoria Rue, PHD. Funny how in recent years, despite the intelligenstia being radically egalitarian, these people are so stuck on academic titles. So, what have is Vicky Rue, a modern day pagan priestess, who demands to be have the title of PHD affixed to her name. How rich!

These Catholic Action folks and their gay rights allies were picketing outside the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis AGAIN after Sunday Mass today.
Apparently this lovely liturgy workshop didn't stress the importance of "embodied worship" on the Lord's Day…unless standing in the street waving signs with "WWJD with $10,000?" and "HATE is not a Family Value" at the Catholics who have just celebrated the Eucharist (with "spoken prayer and occasional gestures") is now considered to be "creative and liberating liturgy" for those who have been challenged to "dream and act anew for the renewal of ourselves, our communities, and our world."
Something tells me these folks aren't into the whole Christianity thing.

There were several "Why stay Catholic?" questions by posters. Welcome to Progressivism 101–Chaos and Destruction. What would be the point of a progressive Catholic going Episcopal (or ELCA, PCUSA, etc) when mission is already accomplished there? (Namely, reducing them to a pile of doctrinal rubble.) The Catholic Church has taken a hell of a beating liturgically and from lay cabals in bishop's offices, but doctrinally it is still sound and thus is like the white whale to progressivist Captain Ahab. The Church hierarchy are the mean old lions and progressives imagine themselves as Daniel by staying in the Chuch. If they left, they'd be just another Episcopalian.

Hmmm… Since the consecrated host is truly the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, is a Vegan allowed to receive?
But no worry, there will be no real presence at that particular "celebration".

They actually said "comfortable shoes."
[Facepalm.]
Yeah, they do give themselves away…
