Democrats and their p.r. arm, the mainstream media, are screaming about how the violent political rhetoric from the right is “aiding and abetting” violence. Nancy Pelosi even said “I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw, I saw this myself in the late ’70s in San Francisco. This kind of rhetoric was, is very frightening and it created a climate in which we, violence took place.”
So here’s my speech:
Conservatives have been dealt a harsh defeat. We must reload. Battle back. Fight on. And if our aim is true we have a good shot at taking back the reins of government come November.
As conservatives we must tighten the noose around unruly government and cut out of control spending.
We must aim true at those targeted districts, shoot straight, and keep gunning for them for them until they fall.
As this monstrous healthcare bill destroys our healthcare system, we must kill the bill or at least choke off the funds, and make sure this healthcare bill blows up in their face. We must make sure this bill is their Waterloo after all.
We must put a stranglehold on bureaucracies before they detonate the dreams of millions, crippling the generations to come with debt.
We must bombard the airwaves with our message, hammer away at their assumptions. So much hangs in the balance. Stand strong conservatives and be sure to storm the voting booths in November. Thank you.

Fail. This isn't funny.

No, this is very funny. Matthew has taken the absurd accuation and the world of idioms together to combat the world of idiots. Keep going, because the Bible tells us of the strength of the sword and the word. We will live by THE Word.

Yep. Funny. The fact that in our age people either don't understand analogy and metaphor or prentend like they are stupid about it, makes for a mine of comedy gold. "Put on the whole armor of God" ring a bell?

…government SHOULD be afraid of the people… when it's not, the Constitution gets walked on… oh wait, that's what's happening now…

All I know is that when I walk a lonely street at night I'm deathly afraid of employed men in blazers and well-spoken women wearing those menacing, racist, fascist Sarah Palin buttons. Afraid, I tell you!

Honestly, Matthew, I'm surprised you'd shoot your mouth off like that.

Great job of dropping the bomb on them, Matthew.

I'm with Early Riser. This post isn't funny. The sheer volume of such rhetoric helps to create a very heated climate, whether intentionally or not.
Feel free to discuss this article.

I'd say it may help defuse the situation, Brian, but I can already tell you have a short trigger.
…Mediamatters? Dude.

I don't think a lot of people are getting this. I didn't at first, but now I think that it is funny.
Matthew isn't advocating the things in bold. He's showing how you can read a meaning into a message by pulling out words and emphasizing phrases.
Matthew,
I think it might have been clearer if you had had it first as what is said without the bolding, and then again as it is heard in some corners with the bolding.

Doesn't apply here. Well that was a quick discussion!

Hahahahah! This was great! Hahahahahahah!

Wine – DUH. I did "get it". Explaining a "joke" doesn't usually make it funnier. The current situation in this country is volatile, to say the least. I'm talking 1992 riots volatile. I just don't feel this is a laughing matter, regardless of what side it comes from. And as I said, the current violence is targetting BOTH sides.

Early – I feel sorry that you cannot find a play on words funny. There is always going to be extremists that take it too far but we cannot blame others for what they do. People are accountable for their own actions. Here is a thought. What if he had written it differently? How do you know that someone will not "read" it wrong and still do something violent? It is all about perception and common sense which I think is really lacking in society.

I'm talking 1992 riots volatile.
Sorry, I just don't see it. I'm not gonna start walking on eggshells based on guesswork. New Testament times were volatile and yet that book is chock full of analogies and metaphors of battle, weapons, etc. Really, it's hard to see these objections as anything other than a fancy way of saying, "Shut up!"

Early Riser is wrong, as is often the case, I'm afraid.
It's funny.

Matthew, Were you listening to Laura Ingraham on Friday AM? This is the same point he was making.
The left used language like this & much worse against President Bush. This isn't about the right creating a heated climate. This IS about the left attempting to silence anyone who dares to criticize their socialist agenda, just lik th fascists did in Pre-WW II Italia.
I also find it ironic that the left calls the right fascist since the founder of fascism, Mussolini, was a radical socialist.

Fascism was and is a distinctly anti-liberal ideology.

LOL…I'm not sure which is funnier, this post or the comments!
Now, Matt, really, if you're going to be a blogger, you might want to first read Sister P.C. from the USCCB blog in which she decries our lack of civility. (FYI: THis is tongue-in-cheek, people!_)
For my part, I always just substitute the word "slavery" for "prolife" issues & then see how "civil" we're supposed to be. Sorry. The fact is that we're all so used to 3,000-4,000 kids being killed everyday in this country that we can't hardly bestir ourselves off the couch anymore.
Right on, Matt.
