Liturgesy: Heresy expressed in the form of Liturgy
Witness the closing ceremonies (aka liturgy) from Los Angeles Religious Education Congress 2010.
I kept expecting a giant Stonehenge to come down from the ceiling.

At the outset, let me say that I prefer Gregorian Chant and something more traditional at mass. Although I don't think that the Tridentine Mass is neccessarily any more holy than the Novus Ordo. At the risk of being the closet liberal hanging out at this website, I would observe that the Bible says that King David danced before the Lord in loincloth and it pleased God. As a former member of a "charismatic" Episcopal Church, let me tell you, it could be A LOT WORSE.

Why do I feel like I just witnessed utter Satanic rebellion?
March 28, 2010 at 12:23 am
Oh my goodness, "Bad Catholic," let's not give them any ideas. Next year they may do their dancing in loincloths.
On a serious note, I don't think it says anywhere in the New Testament about anyone dancing before God in a loincloth during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. I think a lot of us would agree that would be distracting while trying to focus on Christ.

Was this the opening to the Olympics or a Wiccan/earth worship ceremony? Is a deacon supposed to dance around with the Gospels and then stand there dancing like at a party. What is with the bishop etc. on the altar clapping like that? Where is Jesus on the cross? Isn't it supposed to be a crucifix? Since when do Deacon's wives process in? There were tons of deacons but few priests that I could see. Perhaps because there are no boys anywhere!
Boy, do they need that new bishop! God help Him whoever he turns out to be.

Oh God in heaven. I was reading the comments when the "gathering song" started playing. I heard the saxophone and was dumbstruck. A friend of mine remarked that it sounds like the intro music for SNL.
Honestly, what upsets me most is to see devoted people so mislead. It's a shame.

Wow. Really. Deep breaths, everyone. Deep breaths.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is not about 'us'. It is not about celebrating our variety of cultures. It is not about us. It is about the worship of Almighty God.

I'm a convert to Catholicism. Raised in the United Church of Canada, and having spent a fair amount of time with friends throughout my teens and twenty-something years in Anglican, Pentecostal and Baptist circles, I can say with a fair amount of confidence that authentic Catholic worship is worship as God intended it to be. This video is repugnant for so many reasons, well attested to by others herein this blog, so I won't digress much except to ask: Why is it that Catholics trade a banquet with the King of Kings for a drive-by buffet of soul destroying pablum?

Dang it Peter, you beat me to it!
Wives of deacons are not ordained. Nor do they share in their husbands' ordination. A great many people in a great many places need to be reminded of this.

It is a horrible feeling to know that you see this stuff and you laugh and laugh and laugh because you are so embarrassed for the people who are doing it. Then you feel bad because you realize how they mock God and do this neo-pagan stuff at the Holy Sacrafice of the Mass. Then you see them dancing again and you are so embarrassed for them and by them that you laugh and laugh and laugh, then you feel even worse than when you felt bad the first time… I had to quit watching, much as I love to laugh it really is a near occassion of sin for me.

That first song, was that the 1960's saying 'sock it to me, sock it to me"? It sure sounded like it.

Beautiful!
NOT.
Is this lifechurch or a Catholic mass?

Pray for the new Bishop, yes, he will definitely need it. But don't expect too much improvement. As someone from the Saginaw diocese, I can tell you from experience, it will take years if not decades or maybe even generations, to root out the weeds which grow from the seeds of dissent. Especially when the dissent has been actively promoted by the Bishop.

Oh, my. Oh, my. I'm just disgusted.
March 28, 2010 at 4:34 am
Appalling. Beyond appalling, actually.
And Terentia, I know what you mean about Saginaw. We used to live in that diocese…. Some of my students got into it with the local priest, because they wanted to kneel at the consecration, and he wouldn't let them. And there was much, much more….

Disgusting there are no words to describe this disgrace.
From beginning to end I thought I was watching some pagan ritual. The chair of the Bishop more visible than the the altar it self how disgraceful. I guess that would make sense, apparently the worship of man has a higher seat than the worship of God.

The most offensive thing I have seen all year.
March 28, 2010 at 5:50 am
"There are faithful Catholics in Southern California, of course one wouldn't know it by the looks of this disgrace!"
and
"Honestly, what upsets me most is to see devoted people so mislead. It's a shame"
As a product of this kind of liturgical environment, I can tell you that many of those people have no idea what they are missing.

Terentia, you are so right. It will take years/generations to root out the weeds… Pray that everyone has patience. Mahoney has been there a long time.

I love CMR, but as I watched these series of videos, I was reminded of a few things. 1. I am hispanic and a conservative who will soon joing the thousands of Conservative Catholic homeschooling families. 2. As a youth leader, a while ago, I found the Spirit alive in young people who worshipped in ways that others saw with disapproval. 3. Jesus would probably be more upset by the killing of innocent lives or behavior contrary to the Divine design, i.e. abortion and homosexuality, than by what these videos show. 4. Finally, a memory of my 3 yr old son getting out of from behind the pew to dance during any one of the hymns or songs during Mass at our parish. As an innocent soul, he let the worship songs move him.
I continued to read people's comments and wondered why there was so much concern about the technicalities of this clearly multicultural liturgy. You can't expect it to look and feel "white American". It was clearly intended to have a multicultural feel. It is foolish to think that people in the Third World can afford the 10K altars that our US parishes insist on having, with mortgages that some can hardly afford. Would God be less present if we used a tree trunk or "scrapyard metal" altar instead of a of rich mahogany one? Whatever happened to coming to the table of the Lord with pure and joyful hearts, living in accordance to the Scriptures, and the promise that he will welcome us and give us his eternal blessings? So what if, they used a larger amount of incense than we are used to, a bunch of Deacons' wives participated in the procession supporting their husband's ministry' and people danced in worship? Did anyone see the liturgical dancers offering their talent during Pope John Paul II's visit to Cuba a few years ago? None of it can possibly lead to eternal condemnation.
Yesterday, my now 7 year old son, participated in a Children' Stations of the Cross, at a very conservative parish (that I love!). When it was all done, he came over to me and said, "Mom that was awesome!" I considered his comment and, while my initial reaction was to find it strange, I decided that Jesus is awesome and that his sacrifice for us was just as awesome. I decided I was more than OK with this description. I kissed him and thank God for teaching me his love through my innocent 7 yr old. Not a bad lesson for the last Friday before Palm Sunday.
