Mahony's liturgesy convention causes offense for only a brief part of the year. His andro-BVM at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels potentially offends year round. See it in all him/her/it's glory here:

Oh man. This worsened my already bad headache.
Anonymous @ 1:07AM, I don't think people expected it to be "White American", whatever that means, or expected there to be a 10K altar. I think they expected it to be the same as any normal mass they can attend anywhere in the world. The thing is this is so far out from a normal mass. It was really almost occult-ish to me, and all the dancing and the praise and worship music distracts the people from God.
Anyway, I think there's a huge difference between the innocence of a 3yr old boy dancing spontaneously and adults who know or should know what is expected from them at a Catholic mass. And I see nothing wrong with your son participating in the Children's Stations of the Cross…

I'm an agnostic that attends an Anglican church and that disturbed me…

Incense? dang! I thought they had brought piping hot buckets of chicken.

After watching the first five minutes, I couldn't take it any more!
I forget who it was who said that the greatest loss in recent times is ADORATION. I typed "traditional mass" into youtube to find a healthy corrective and this comes up first: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enWiFcsBqIE&feature=player_embedded#
It's worth watching the first five minutes just to compare with the atrocity of that "closing liturgy"!!

I happened to be watching the clip with my 5 year old and she said, "Is that the circus?". I wanted to answer "YES".

Again, it's not about 'us'. It's not about 'us'. It's about the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The worship of Almighty God.

WOW! This was deserving of this many comments.
Would you guys consider providing us with an "Upchuck Meter" on this kind of thing. I watched to whole thing, after Palm Sunday lunch and nearly lost all of it. We're fasting so there wasn't much, but none-the-less, the effect was there.
On an Upchuck Meter scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being, "just threw up in my mouth," running all the way through "lost my cookies," "blew grits," and "tossed chunks" up to 10 being "projectile pukage," I rated this a 9.5.

Who advised them on this event, Maureen Dowd?! Afterall she seems to have the plans on what the Church needs to do…
of course I'm being sarcastic!

It pains me that this is "religious education" in the U.S. – or at least, parts of the U.S. The archdiocese is large, has a great number of people & yet THIS is the best they can do to express the Church of the Christ? The Catholic Mass was multicultural FOR CENTURIES(!) … before the 60's revolt which gave English-speakers the jumble of additives we now endure.

I feel deeply sorry for the Eastern bishops there…
But my friend told me that the Eastern bishops celebrated a Divine Liturgy attended by more than 1000 people.
O, light of the East…

Ok, as someone who is a liturgist and a music minister at a parish and who appreciates everything from chant to modern praise music (I'm sure I'll get castigated here for saying that), let me say that what went on in this video was completely inappropriate. The liturgy, even if more modern music is used, still should be reverent and follow the traditions of the Roman Rite. Dancing of any kind is expressly forbidden, and the incense thing was just plain weird and totally out of place for a Catholic Mass. This liturgy represents liturgical abuse taken to the extreme.

How sad.

Every one of those bishops should be flogged in Saint Peter's Square, and Mohoney should be made to do the flogging. 40 Lashes per.

LOL Kim, that was funny!
Um…Scuse me if I go out on a limb here, but liturgical dancing is a cultural phenomenon that shouldn't be mocked (in other words, old white women have no business attempting). I loved the music, but was sad to see it at Mass. I have to wonder myself, if these people were to hear a stunning cantata or motet, would they be bored?
So Stonehenge eh? Like "Spinaltap's Stonehenge"?! Hahahahah! Now that was funny!

I couldn't tell if I was watching a Mass or the halftime show for the Superbowl.

Why can't I shake the suspicion that even with all those Bishops, Priests and Deacons, there were still several women acting as extraordinary ministers at communion?

The music and dance are not to my taste, but I fail to see what is "heretical" about it. I thought the Bishop / Celebrant was being a good sport, clapping along. What's the big deal? There is room for all sorts of musical styles in Catholicism. The dance here was kind of foolish looking to my eyes, but to some other believers, it may hold valid meaning. Why judge?

I expect the inbound Bishop Gomez will say (when he sees this video) – with a characteristic Opus Dei smile: "Wonderful, what joy, now let's get on our knees and remind ourselves who God is, who is your Father, and my Father, and what wretched, self-absorbed, comfort-seeking children we've been!!
