James Cameron’s Avatar may no longer be the 3-D event of the year. Millions of Christians will likely travel to Turin to view the Shroud of Turin in a way that hasn’t been seen before by many.
It’s Jesus!!! Now in 3-D. I never thought I’d see the day but visitors who wish to visit the Shroud of Turin can now be issued 3-D glasses similar to the ones used by millions to view movies. The glasses will allow people to view details invisible to the naked eye including blood stains…

Let me say that as a person of faith, I have no problem with it being His image. However, as a retired scientist, I am always cognizant that even the most honest, competent researchers can sometimes find what they are looking for, even if it is not there. Recall the "Face on Mars," which required significant effort, and even some innovative image processing techniques, to display clearly. Of course, when the next high resolution Mars orbiter took clear pictures of the area, there was nothing there except some highly eroded rock formations. We may, probably are, seeing something similar being exposed with respect to Anthropogenic Global Warming. A friendly admonition from one believer to another.

I see nothing wrong with believing in the Shroud. It's a beautiful testament to the Faith.

I am not aware of any official judgment from the Church about the shroud. I have also seen documentaries alledging that it is a fake produced by Leonardo Da Vinci.

Maybe it's fake, maybe not. Regardless of the answer to that it has no effect on my faith, although I confess to arguing it's validity with nonbelievers.

"The Face of Jesus" documentary that was recently aired on the History Channel was quite compelling. Seems like it would take a heckuva lot more faith to believe it is a fake than otherwise since it involves producing a negative image on a cloth centuries before the advent of photography, not to mention embedding 3-D information in a 2-D image.

Is Veronica's veil still available? Would the two items not have the same characteristics?

Subvet – I agree. I personally believe in it, but it doesn't affect my faith one way or another.
I saw the abc report on the 3-D image where they interviewed a number of American tourists in Italy. Of course, they got a few vapid responses: "wow! He's HOT!"
Yes…God, who walked the earth and gave Himself up for mankind is "hot".

Undoubtedly a fake, but why should it matter ? Check out the body proportions, particularly the arms.

Next time you are in Alamogordo, NM stop by the Shroud of Turin Exhibit and Museum and take a look at a picture of the shroud under a VP-8 image analyzer.
Pretty amazing to see the 3D image jump out! I'd also recommend Dr Heller's book on the scientific studies on the shroud before jumping to the conclusion that it is a fake.

I thought the 3-D face was oddly comforting.

There are some very impressive and compelling reasons to give the Shroud serious thought.
The History channel documentary is very good, but there have been other videos and books on the subject. From the pollen and mineral deposits (which come from Jerusalem), to the presence of human blood (AB), to the scientifically inexplicable image, it all adds up to something that requires more attention than dismissal due to a carbon date on the fringe of the fabric.
If it is a fake, it is a fake completed 800 years ago that still fools the best forensic and scientific minds of the 21st century, and has photographic properties (not to mention human blood), that no modern faker has been able to replicate in any compelling way.
