What the heck is wrong with Hollywood? Why do they feel that they have to go out of their way to ridicule Christianity all the time. Now, the sleazemeister who brought us Basic Instinct and Showgirls (but in his defense did also make the pretty cool Robocop) wants to make a movie all about…Jesus. And it’s not going to be exactly…kind to Christians.
Paul Verhoeven, the director and author and member of The Jesus Seminar, is looking into making a movie based on his book about Jesus which portrayed Jesus as a terrorist against Roman rule and theorized that Jesus was the product of a rape.
Big Hollywood reports that Verhoven’s book about Jesus has a bit of a different take on Jesus:
Verhoeven constructs a new vision of Jesus as a child born from the rape of Mary by a Roman soldier, as a spiritualist who performed exorcisms by screaming and spitting in the mouths of the possessed to drive out demons, and as a militant revolutionary who urged his followers to arm themselves.
Perfect.
This has got bomb written all over it so I’m sure it’ll get all the financing it needs to be made. I guarantee there will be plenty of actors lined up to play Jesus because it’ll give them a chance to feel like they’re doing something daring and important.

I have no words. Well, I do have words, but not appropriate ones to write in a com box. Hollywood is insane!

If I wrote and directed four films each about the same man, each showing a different side of him, which covered roughly the three final years of his life, with some peppering of his infancy and pre-teen years, and then devoted almost a quarter to one-third of each of my films to the final day of this man's life, I might consider that final day a bit important to understanding that man's life and perhaps my audiences' perceptions of what that man's life was all about.

You don't need to pick up, handle, smell, fondle and taste cow dung to know it's Anglo-Saxon word. Well maybe some people do?

On the bright side, I heard someone say (was it Chesterton?) that those who quest for the real Jesus find Jesus much like themselves.
"…a new vision of Jesus as a child born from the rape of Mary by a Roman soldier, as a spiritualist who performed exorcisms by screaming and spitting in the mouths of the possessed to drive out demons, and as a militant revolutionary who urged his followers to arm themselves."
I believe the timeless principle holds true yet again, as it seems this is a perfect projection of Verhoeven, albeit with necessary adaptation in accord with time and place.

No Fatwa? I would have volunteered…
National Geographic had an "Easter Special" promising to distinguish "between fact and faith" and all the while quoting from the gnostics…
I'm quite sure media types have now outnumbered lawyers in hell…

"Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with twelve legions of angels?"
Hmph. Some terrorist. Didn't even shiv Pilate when he had him one-on-one.

This has already been done. It was called "The Life of Brian." I'll bet this won't be as good either. BTW Are we with the Judean Peoples Front or the Peoples Front of Judea? I can never remember.

I'm still waiting for the movie that takes a "critical look" at Muhammad, the Koran, or Islam in general…..Oh someone already did one. But Theo van Gogh was murdered for his efforts… it's much safer to knock Christiaity.

I for one am looking forward to seeing this movie.

I wonder who is important to Verhoven? Some artist or political figure? Maybe only his mother. Maybe not even her.
My idea for a movie is to take someone who is important to Verhoven and tell a story where all the parts of that person that made her so important are reversed. So, if it was important to Verhoven that his mother was, say, caring, my movie would cast her as a vicious lesbian alcoholic who beat him. Then, I would market the movie as "a new take" and "constructing a new vision"

Don't worry He knew what was coming: "Blessed are ye , when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely , for my sake"
Take heart for we shall overcome, it is inevitable.
