How else to explain this incoherent retraction of his apology?
Last Sunday, the radically ignorant Fr. Pfleger of Chicago advocated heresy in a homily “That’s why there should be woman priests, that’s why there should be married priests, that’s why there should be woman Bishops and women Cardinals”
Then he apologized.
Then he probably got drunk. How else to explain this little but of incoherence?
“Sunday, I mentioned in my Sermon that I believe in married Priests and Woman Priests,” the Facebook comment reads. “I was then told that I had to apologize for saying it durning [sic] a Sermon because that is not allowed, even though that is my opinion.
“I have received much hate from the right-winged who want my removal,” he added. “Amazing… Nobody Blogged me or youtubed me about helping Save our children or Stopping the Violence…”
I’ll have what he’s drinking.
If I didn’t know better, I would bet the Pfather Pfleger is pfixing pfor a way to pfend opf being depfrocked through and insanity depfense.
Pfat Chance.
Cardinals typically do not take my advice but I offer it freely none the less. Cardinal George, get rid of this guy as soon as you can. This cannot end well.

Brain damaged or drunk??? Hmmmm…. I vote both!

OH… and is that a picture of him? Because he looks like a 30 year old Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter. Just sayin'… 🙂

Oh dear…. I really hope it's a picture of him. Because if it is of someone nice or cool I'm going to feel really bad! I need to think before commenting!

Maggie, that's Anthony Perkins, Norman Bates from Psycho. Patrick, I'm not sure to be ROFL or totally horrified by that photo. I'll have to sleep on it. Either way, Pfleger's got to go.

Thans, Amy, for clearing that up for me! (I need to brush up on old school horror flicks…) 'Tis truly fitting for this post, in my opinion!

The problem was Father Pfleger. The problem now is His Eminence, Francis Cardinal George. It has become a greater scandal under his lack of fortitude in this matter. Pfleger is a loud-mouthed, undisciplined thug who needs a boot out of his parish and the priesthood.
April 17, 2010 at 7:04 am
Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee-buck-stops-here are two peas in a pod. George is a clueless, incompetent nitwit who would rather see the church suffer scandal after scandal rather than actually make a decision that would potentially upset the liberal Chicago elite.
If you attempt to french-kiss a viper, you should expect to taste venom.

What does it take to get rid of a heretical priest these days?
April 17, 2010 at 3:48 pm
We may certainly disagree with our bishops, but some of these comments are over the top. Yesterday's column was about how Fr. Pfleger disrespected Cardinal George. IMHO, there is far more disrespect in these comboxes. Remember, you are talking about a priest and cardinal called by God, and his hands bring us Jesus.

How to get rid of a heretic? Well, maybe we can get Fr Fleger to go to a Fauxrdination? Worked for Roy Bourgeois. Just a suggestion. AnneG

His hands bring us Jesus, and his mouth brings us heresy. He should go.

Siobhan – Martin Luther was a priest. Stalin studied for the priesthood. I will not give any respect to miscreants and those who would attempt to destroy the church simply because they hide behind a priest's cassock (or in the case of Pfleger a Darshiki looking thing). Stop blindly/mindlessly kowtowing to these people! What would St Catherine have done???

CDL George is the real problem here. Pfleger couldn't get away with this perfidy if Georgy-Boy didn't allow it. Both of these gys need to be yanked out of their offices and replaced with faithfll Catholics who will teach, preach, and act according to the deposist of faith.

A Prayer for Priests
Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord,
keep them, for they are Thine –
Thy priests whose lives burn out
before Thy consecrated shrine.
Keep them, for they are in the world,
though from the world apart;
when earthly pleasures tempt, allure –
shelter them in Thy heart.
Keep them, and comfort them
in hours of loneliness and pain,
when all their lives of sacrifice
for souls seems but in van.
Keep them, and O remember, Lord,
they have no one but Thee,
yet they have only human hearts,
with human frailty.
Keep them as spotless as the Host,
that daily they caress;
their every thoughts and word and deed,
Deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

I do not excuse everything that Pfleger does. Still, allow me to play "Devil's Advocate" for a moment.
If Pfleger isn't around to combat racism and champion the poor, who else will?
April 19, 2010 at 1:21 am
Brian – pretty much everyone in the Missionaries of Charity, for starters. If yoiu think Pfleger is the only religious who has been working for the poor and against racism, then you have swallowed his kool-aid.
Personally, I find Pfleger to be a racist and offensive.
April 19, 2010 at 1:29 pm
You people do not understand.
1. Pfleger has done a phenomenal job with his parish, St. Sabina's , which is an all black parish in a run down, game and crime infested area of Chicago. St. Sabina's has organization, discipline and a sense of security for the community that makes it special for it's parishoners and the community as a whole.
2. If George goes 'too far' in disciplining Pfleger 5000 blacks will be picketing the Cardinal's residence the next day. When Pfleger insulted Hillary Clinton at TUCC, George suspended him for three weeks, but it was always known he was coming back. If he is permannently removed from the parish, there will be uproar in the black Catholic population of Chicago.
That's just the way it is.
April 19, 2010 at 4:08 pm
sam bonner – the people of St. Sabina's deserve orthodoxy, and the genuine Catholic faith, in addition to what else Fr. Pfleger has done there. No priest is more important than his parish, and no priest is above the Truth. He has the obligation to teach truth, not just be a charismatic and popular leader of a tight-knit church. What does it profit them to gain a sense of community at the risk of their souls?
If the Father continues to put his heresy before the needs of his flock then he will eventually require removal.
April 19, 2010 at 4:46 pm
Sam – what you are leaving out is St Sabinas is hardly a Catholic church. It is more of an interreligious community flop-house. I don't know the percentage of people who attend Pfleger's "services" that are Catholic, but I can say he has a substantial amount of Protestants (they call him "pastor", NOT "Father Pfleger"…and maybe rightfully so) as well as Nation of Islam attendees.
Now, you might say, "Good! He's bringing them to Catholicism!" No, he's not. He provides the sacraments to ANYONE who walks up the line, and has Protestantized his mass (including 70+ minute "sermons") such that it is indistinguishable from any other Protestant service. Yoiu can watch them on youtube if you don't believe me, as they are available now.
As Nightfly says, the REAL Catholic community of St Sabina's deserves REAL Catholicism. If George is picketed after the removal of Pfleger, THEN THAT IS A SIGN HE SHOULD BE REMOVED. NO parish should be run under a cult of personality. If Pfleger told his congregation to drink poisoned Kool-Aid on Sunday, how many do you think would follow his orders? This is why he needs to be removed. NOW.
