I don’t think diaper jorts are mentioned in Revelations but they should’ve been. This is probably what the Four Horsemen will be wearing…or something.
And being this is a Catholic blog and all we should probably all pitch in to some kind of fund to help this kid through all the therapy he’s going to need when he realizes what his mother put him in.

This commercial annoyed me for lots of reasons, but the #1 reason is that the voice-over implies that this baby's disposable diaper is "full" of feces. In what universe is it okay for a caretaker to leave a soiled diaper on a human being for an extended period of time? This is the kind of neglect that extensive diaper rash, infections, and lifelong therapy are made of.

hmmm…touched on a nerve here Matt. Probably the Pudendal nerve (the one that controls the rectal sphincter among other things).
I wonder what Freud would say.

Haha thats taking it a bit too seriously. I think thats a mighty dashing baby, and one hilarious commercial. Great advertising. Hey, maybe it'll make more people want to have babies now that they don't have to worry about ugly diapers!

Someone get Fr.Z,AMP and the Catholic League on this one immediately!

OH yeah… you might get a lot of comments on this one I think. There's the "awww… it's just a bit of potty humor and it's cute!" to the "it's sexualizing our children and poop is gross!" I've seen this all over the Internet and it's crazy.
I really don't know what to think about the controversy of the commercial. It's about as corny as the diapers themselves (I'm actually a fan of potty humor). I think I might include a note on our baby registry for my family and friends NOT to purchase these for us.

I guess I should clarify that I find the COMMERCIAL corny.. not necessarily the controversry. I thought the commercial was annoying before ever knew there was a debate!

Ugh. I hate this commercial. Who lets their child walk around without pants in a city?
Did you know that there are two versions of this commercial? The child-geared channels (Nick, Sprout, etc) didn't like the potty humor in the original commercial, so the voice over is different.

all I can say is since they're just diapers, I intend to snatch them up when the commissary has them on sale for $5 in an attempt to get rid of them.

Do they come in adult sizes?

Cool jeans! He'll be the hit of daycare!

Anybody forced to wear these as a toddler will probably end up playing soccer…

I wrote about these diapers and this commercial back in May.

I don't know. I read your post, Charlotte, and you make some good points. But I'm just not feeling any outrageous outrage. It just seems to me that there's SO MUCH ELSE going on in the world right now that I can't get too annoyed or upset about diapers that look like jeans. I thought the catchline was kind of funny. But the print ad IS a little much.
(disclosure: My four month old actually has some of these. They were given to us from my sis in law after her six month old outgrew that size. So, yes, my baby has worn them!!)

Not a fan of the commercial as I'm not of the "potty humor" variety either. Yet I don't think there is anything wrong with the theme. I don't think this kid was abused or taken advantage of in any way. When he's old enough, he will most likely smile, be proud of it and hope his 15 minutes aren't over.
At the same time, as a father my first impulse IS to check for any elements of "sexualization" of children there. And while I didn't find anything remotely tangible, I can and do understand the sentiments of people who wish to air on the side of caution.
