Pathetic.
9-11-01
"WE HAVE FORGOTTEN. PARTLY BECAUSE OUR GOVERNMENT NOW SAYS IT WASN'T TERRORISM REALLY, JUST MAN-MADE DISASTERS, AND DISASTERS ARE FORGETTABLE."

What upset me, watching the video, was the mere fact of the ignorance.
Actually, only 35% getting those questions wrong kinda impresses me in a way – or at least doesn't upset me. Especially in New York, I imagine the trauma was such that many people have put it out of their minds… moved on, or something.
I also note that the interviewers showed footage from the same five or six people over and over again. That is promising – it means that they didn't have other "good footage" to use to make their point.
I do not think their survey was representative.

The idea of taking a camera around and making Americans look dumb is a tired old schtick in British media. I would put no stock in this whatsover. It says more about the British that this is a topic for humor over there.

AUSTRALIANS ACTUALLY.
The accent is a bit of a giveaway.
Please don't assume us Brits are behind every insult Anon!

That was pathetic and pitiful. It is sad how easily people have forgotten the facts about 9/11.
June 26, 2010 at 2:19 am
we-ell, sad, but there's a also a factor of how flustered people get in front of a camera. So they showed us all the people who forgot (or momentarily forgot) that 9-11 meant September 11… I dunno.
Everybody I know at work knows when, where, what, and approximately how many KIA there were that day. Granted, most of them wear cammies to work, and the rest are retired from having worn cammies to work…
Don't worry. We gotcher back.

I was married on Saturday after the Tuesday attack and went to Quebec, Canada for our honeymoon. It's hard for me to forget the year or day of the week.

As for the number, approx. the same number of abortions per day take place as were killed on 9/11; this fact can be used in abortion priority arguments (as compared to terrorism, healthcare, etc).
3,000 v. 4,000 per diem.

I was very surprised to see that some people would answer "Hindu." The image is kind of ridiculous… not only are these people ignorant of what happened approx. 9 years ago, they don't seem to know much about world religions.
Gotta hand it to the fellow who answered "stupid, that's what they were… stupid Muslims… I don't want to be wrong, a lot. Millions." At least he's properly outraged!
June 26, 2010 at 4:53 am
Meilin – actually Hindus invented the suicide bomber. So, not as far fetched as you might think.
But yes, stupid stupid Mohammedans. And stupid people for forgetting. They get what is coming to them.
June 26, 2010 at 5:09 am
How does someone forget that? I mean I know I come from a more informed place(My cousin Matt was one of the first firefighters to make it to the Pentagon)but even if you don't know anyone with even the slightest connection to the attacks that's not exactly something you forget.

As was already mentioned, the number of folk interviewed was small. The older ones, (with the exception of the doublechinned white guy) could have been straight out of a homeless shelter. The younger ones would have been nine years younger than now, to us old fogeys nine years isn't much but think of how it seemed when you were twenty-five. Then think of how clueless you were at fourteen.
It IS pathetic that they were able to get the responses they did. But I think they really cherry picked the respondents to be shown on camera.
As for the survey quoted, I'd love to know who did it and how it was done.

Lets do a video in Great Britain about dental care. how many teeth does the average Brit have in his head? Or how about asking them what their culture will do when Muslim completely over run them? Give the Yanks a jingle on the tele again to bail them out from the bad guys? Ask them about August of 2005 when 52 people were killed in several different locations including 10 or so when the roof of a double -decker was blown off?
Very funny that lot eh?

If you are not capable of discerning the difference between a BRITISH accent and an AUSTRALIAN one, are you not at least capable of reading the printed word?
I have already pointed out that this video is NOT THE WORK OF BRITS.
And your comment about the London bombs was low. By the way,it was July, not August.
I have no idea why you are blethering on about dental care in this context, bizarre.
And as for your comment about Islam, are you aware of what is happening in Dearborn?
As for this "Give the Yanks a jingle on the tele again to bail them out from the bad guys?"
Firstly,a little translation help: "tele" is spelled "telly" and it's the box you watch, not something you give the yanks a jingle on.
That would be "phone" and "tinkle".
Secondly, with your present incumbent kissing up to anyone that hates us, I think your "bailing us out" comment is a bit rich indeed.
I'm thinking "stitched up" is a more credible prospect.
Sneering at friends and allies seems rather fashionable with the Obamas and their acolytes.
So congratulations. You're bang on trend.

Oh, how everyone loves to make fun of the stupid Americans. Personally, I'm not surprised that people don't remember the details of that horribly tragic day. Most American children can't locate Iraq on a map either or identify photographs of Winston Churchill either. I became convinced long ago that Americans are notoriously ignorant of all things history or significant unless it applies directly to them.
June 28, 2010 at 4:22 pm
"….Jingle on the tele" Hilarious! I read that with the Geico Gecko's accent going through my head. (But "tinkle" is just as funny. Do you all in Britain "tinkle" on the phone? That's pretty piss-poor hygiene.)
That post by Anon up there was way off. The 7/7 reference was disgusting and irrelevant. Some reason we need to pick on the Brits? I don't think so. The video was clearly Australian! I mean have you NEVER heard an Aussie accent in your life?
There was definitely some "Interview Brain Freeze" going on there. You can be erudite all day long at home or in your office, but once they turn that camera on, it only takes you a second to agree that cows drink milk and to be unable to recall the color of "George Washington's White Horse".
The other thing of course is that this is a big country and a lot of us are idiots. That's also a factor.
The guy who said, "I don't know – stupid Muslims" knew – exactly. He remembered quite well and he didn't want to talk about it because he was still pissed. Sounded more like the people I know.

Jimbo
I just Googled the Geico gecko. Terrific!
And yes, i would say, "cheerio mum, drive carefully and give me a tinkle when you get home!"
I agree about the interview brain freeze. Catching people like that isn't really giving the whole picture. The comments about Hindus were pretty surprising though.
For me, that day is etched indelibly in my memory. It's as though history was divided that day into "before" and "after".
