Kudos to the USCCB and Cardinal Daniel DiNardo for standing up for life.
Cardinal DiNardo has written Senators urging them not to pass the National Defense Authorization Act unless an amendment authorizing elective abortions at military hospitals is removed.
He writes:
June 29, 2010
Dear Senator:
When the full Senate takes up the National Defense Authorization Act for 2011 (S. 3454), it should remove from the bill a misguided committee amendment to 10 U.S.C. §1093 that authorizes the performance of elective abortions at military hospitals in this country and around the world.
Archbishop Broglio of the Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Services wrote to all Senators on June 17, urging Congress not to impose this tremendous burden on the consciences of Catholic and other health care personnel who joined our armed services to save and protect innocent life, not to destroy it. On behalf of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops I wholeheartedly endorse his plea, and want to offer some additional considerations in terms of longstanding government policy on abortion…
The rest of the letter is at Catholic Key. It’s going to be very interesting seeing where the Senators line up on this one.

I just can't imagine having to go into a military hospital knowing abortions are done there. I have discontinued services at a dental clinic just because they were above a woman's clinic that the doctors were abortionists. No abortions done at that specific clinic, but the docs performed them. If the military is forced to have to perform abortions at their clinics, I won't be able to go to the clinics/ hospital anymore.
I know of a few docs that would be excited about this though. When I miscarried a few years ago, I had to have a D&C. The doc that did the consult was pretty obviously pro-abortion and even described the procedure to me as "Oh, it's the exact same procedure as an abortion." and said it in such a nonchalant manner that it made me cringe. She didn't care a whit that I was upset and crying. I did find out that she'd be on duty for the next 24 hours and my D&C surgery was scheduled for the next morning. I was able to convince the nurses in the OR to make me wait for a few hours so there was a doc change over so she didn't come near me.
I'm a military wife and my heart just breaks at this. I do NOT want this to happen. I will be writing my Senators to push this and do it hard.

"It's going to be very interesting seeing where the Senators line up on this one."
You mean the way the 60 so called CAtholic Democrats representatives in the House who voted for Obamacare? Really? How many of them have been disciplined by their bishops? Oh wait, the bishops have been hand in hand with the Dems for years and have forgotten that they are Catholic bishops, not Democrat bishops.

This worries me. What happens to doctors who don't believe in this but are military doctors not civilian contractors?

KC, I think we'll see those doctors you mention resign their commissions, once their obligated service is completed thats an option for them. It'll be another under reported story in the MSM.
As for those who haven't fulfilled their committment, I'm thinking they'll have to choose between reimbursing the government or compromising their beliefs. THOSE stories will be reported with a very pro abort slant, you can bet the farm on that one!
