You know, I was interested in the new movie “Inception” but this kind of stuff makes it very difficult for me to watch this.
It’s not that I’m boycotting but when I know that the actors on screen look down on me and my way of life it bugs me and it spoils the illusion of movies. It’s the same reason why I can’t go see George Clooney anymore in the movies. It’s not that I’m trying to teach him a lesson by not going to his movies it’s just that I think he’s a jerk who looks down his nose at me. I don’t believe any of his characters. When I see him I just see that jerk who made fun of Charlton Heston’s Alzheimers.
Here you’ve got Ellen Page, the star of “Juno”, saying Palin needs some “compassion” and “holistic intelligence.” I don’t even know what holistic intelligence is. Dicaprio, on the other hand, is an environmentalist nutjob. Has been for a while. And if you ask me I just don’t see what he brings to the table acting wise. I just don’t see it. Dude wasn’t even good on Growing Pains.
Now you know that the makers of this movie who dumped $160 million into making this mind-bending movie have to be changing their underwear when their star alienates half the country by mocking Sarah Palin in such pretentious tones.
Big Hollywood has more.

Holistic intelligence means absolutely nothing. The word Holistic refers to the whole. The word has been appropriated by practitioners of alternative medicine which is probably how Miss Ditz became acquainted with the term.

Ellen Page is the ignorant one here. Holistic intelligence sounds like New Age garbage. I don't think either actor/actress is using their whole mind. Maybe she should produce some seeds of compassion toward conservatives?
July 10, 2010 at 1:18 pm
Re: Teresa,
Not only New Age garbage, but one given her by PR people. In other words, she likely doesn't have the brains to come up with a good turn of phrase, much less an empty phrase given by the logocrats of the media.
The best any actor that wants to follow the teachings of the faith can do with Hollywood is…be somewhere else.

Why aren't entertainment shows/channels actually reporting and discussing on the artistic craft of movies/tv shows/music?
July 10, 2010 at 3:12 pm
When celebs start living in the real world, then and only then, should anyone care what they think or have to say. The notion that I should follow their political or moral opinions simply because they're famous shows you how disconnected from reality these people really are. But sure, they're entitled to their opinions.
July 10, 2010 at 4:06 pm
I'm with John. It's just opinions of mindless Hollywood dweebs. When they start using their Hollywood status to influence elections or make total jack-*ss comments like the Dixie Chicks did, then we'll have problems. Until then, they're entitled to their opinions.
July 10, 2010 at 4:43 pm
Hollywood loves to make believe that they are relevant. They just haven't figured out that make believe is all they have going for them.
It's so sad that they, and about half the country, think that because they have a face that looks good on a magazine cover, somehow what goes on behind it must be important.
I can't believe the number of people who say they saw something in a movie to support a point that they are trying to make.
Sad…and a little bit terrifying.

I think boycotting is just the thing… eventually the producers will realize that actors in politics don't make good business… hit 'em where they live… in the wallet!
July 10, 2010 at 8:55 pm
Sad bunch of American war mongers. Palin is an idiot. Cheney is evil.
Kudos to Ellen Page for calling a spade a spade.
See you when you run out of water.
Love,
Canada

These Hollywood stars are amongst the elite that many youth look up to today. They might not be great actors or appear in the best movies, but they are roll models for sure. So many youth around the world want what they have, and are turning to pop and consumer culture to define themselves. And less and less to religion and the church. There appears to be a new era emerging, that began in the 1960's when birth control was made legal and empowered females.

When we run out of water? What?
July 10, 2010 at 11:22 pm
I think that celebs are perfectly capable of holding intelligent opinions. You all would not be so dismissive of a conservative celebrity like Jon Voight or Chuck Norris. Come to think of it no one who values their life dismisses Chuck Norris.
July 11, 2010 at 2:31 am
Chuck Norris is my favorite. Jon Voight is up there also. I love how Voight is speaking his mind to Obama.

It's hard to boycott Hollywood when you don't watch their garbage in the first place. However, I do look forward to the day that Hollywood runs out of other peoples money. Perhaps then I could enjoy some real entertainment. For now I've been enjoying the demise of the propaganda arm of the Socialist Democrat Party otherwise know as the paper news. Hope springs eternal.

…You know, "holistic intelligence" could actually have a meaning, if you look at it from the view of the "types of intelligence" theory from school– short version, folks are good at different things.
If we generously assume she had a clue what she was saying, then "holistic intelligence" is probably the newest mutation of the "oh, you're too coldly rational" thing, to say we need to consider emotion, more. (Translation: yes, I'm irrational, but only because I have HOLISTIC intelligence!)
More likely, it's a buzz word. (Terry Pratchett's magic university and the word "Quantum"?)
*googles*
Um…wow, it seems to be a really, really stupid pop theory. "Holistic intelligence" refers to innate intelligence…. "the innate intelligence inherent in all self-regulating systems and organisms is this generic or holistic intelligence. For example there is no need to put an oak tree into an acorn. The acorn's inherent or holistic intelligence knows exactly what to do. While humans commonly regard their intelligence as superior, I am reminded that the acorn's intelligence will operate for hundreds of years as an oak tree and unquestionably make a valuable contribution to life on earth."
…
So, yeah, latest crack-pot theory to bolster their views that are irrational.

They're free to express their opinions. I, in the same way, am free to consider them hypocrites. Palin needs to show more compassion? It was obviously compassion that drove them to say that in interviews.
I just adore armchair psychiatrists, as well. Palin is afraid, and spreading ignorance because of that fear? Nice analysis.
July 12, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Gosh – isn't anyone else reeling over the "Canadian" revelation that we are going to run out of water? That's a bummer. (Hopefully by the time that happens, aliens will have visited earth and given us the advanced technology we need to figure out how to extract water from the oceans.)
Holistic intelligence sounds a tad like natural law. Hmmm… I wonder what holistic intelligence says about gay marriage? Only the acorn knows.
I'd bet Sarah Palin wouldn't trade her "regular old" intelligence and common sense for any of that water they are drinking in Hollywood. Or for whatever they are using for brains.
Dirtdartwife: thank you for using the word "dweebs". Made my day.
P. Button: you wrote the word "dismisses" and then the words "Chuck Norris" right next to that word. Uh oh.
July 12, 2010 at 6:22 pm
And yet we only seem to make decisions that seriously harm the Republic when democrats are in charge. Hm, hm, hm.
So Ellen Page said that Palin needs to get herself some intelligence you can only be born with? Isn't that… a stupid thing to say?
July 12, 2010 at 6:24 pm
Well… IF you accept the premise, she HAS the "Holistic Intelligence," she just ignores it. Their big thing is humans are the only ones that can do this.
July 12, 2010 at 7:29 pm
This "Creative Minority" conservative blogger seems to think "half the country" will be alienated by the remarks of Leonardo DiCaprio and Ellen Page. (snicker, snort)
Cheney and Palin are "enjoying" record lows in favorability/popularity polls — both in the 20% to 30% range. And you KNOW not every one of those people polled for Palin would actually VOTE for her. Being "popular" isn't the same thing as being competent.
WHERE did you get the idea that there are hundreds of millions of people — "half the country" — who think like you do? From the grossly inflated number tallies at the "marches on Washington" and Teabagger rallies?
At best, I'd say it's about 10 million — about the same number of people who voted for Ron Paul in 1992.
About the question of holistic intelligence, as it applies to Sarah Palin:
Palin's been called a barracuda, a pitbull, and a grizzly (a SOW grizzly — "mama grizzly" is so juvenile). Palin, in true instinctive fashion attacks prey and attempts to eviscerate the prey (anyone who's defeated her, who's refused her something). She hunts her prey unrelentingly until she subdues it (Levi Johnston).
I'm not sure Sarah Palin is entirely human.
