Two families in Australia are suing their doctors for failing to diagnose their unborn children with Down Syndrome because they likely would’ve aborted their children if they’d known they’d be such a bother. So they think the hospital should be on the hook for the costs of raising the children since they would’ve killed the child – one must remember killed children are a LOT less expensive than alive ones.
Wesley Smith of Secondhand Smoke writes: “May these children never learn that their parents would have preferred that they were never born!
We claim today to be a society steeped in equality and tolerance for differences. But too often, that doesn’t apply to people with cognitive or developmental disabilities. I hope this suit fails because there should be no such thing as a “wrongful life.”’
God help us.

Why does this not surprise me? Christ did tell the women "For the time will come when you will say, '"Blessed are the barren women, the wombs that never bore and the breast that never nursed!'
That time has come.

Legally that is called wrongful birth. It is when the parents sue the doctors. Its a recognized tort in many jurisdictions, such as Australia, and yes the United States. If the facts can be proven in court, they will probably be successful.
Wrongful life is a different tort entirely, where the child him/herself sues the doctor for being born. That tort has been rejected in Australia, but has been recognized in some states in the United States, such as New Jersey.

Look for the prevenative measure to be that every woman gets a lecture from a genetic counsellor about the statistical probabilities of having a child with disabilities and mandatory genetic screenings to cya of hospitals and doctors, encouraging and promoting the abortion of countless individuals who fail to live up to the imaginary idea of genetic perfection.

I believe such a "wrongful birth" lawsuit has already succeeded in France.
It is so true that our liberal secular culture says we are supposed to be welcoming and tolerant to everyone … except to those we aren't. And somehow, those are always the ones who call for more love on our part.
As Pope John Paul the Great said, we try to put them out of our misery. (paraphrased)

Please- I'll take them. I have seven healthy children and I'd take those kids and all their expenses in a heartbeat. There are many families who'd be grateful to have a sweet Down's baby to love. We will only stop seeing children as "defective" when we stop seeing them as things we have a right to manufacture.

There's no point in romanticizing the difficulties of caring for a child with special needs. However, they have a dignity and inherent worth that should be honored at all times, and its a shame that this all comes down to costs for some "parents".
