Time Magazine is covering what they call the “abortion wars.” And they choose to investigate one side particularly closely based on a documentary coming out by the makers of the anti-Christian doc “Jesus Camp.” Can you guess which side they’re looking into? The one that kills babies or the one that asks people not to kill their babies?
Because you know, it’s not like Lila Rose ever found anything particularly interesting in her undercover forays into Planned Parenthood like lying about medical facts or covering up crimes or anything.
I’m not going to go into the whole piece (which is as biased as you’d expect) but this paragraph just jumped out at me. Time writes:
While “12th and Delaware” refrains from taking a position on CPCs, it shows what some view as manipulative practices to influence prospective mothers — describing abortion practices in vivid detail, for example, or writing “Hi, Mommy” on an ultrasound. The center “uses a lot of alarming, scary language and photographs that you don’t typically see in a doctor’s office,” says Grady. “If I was an 18-year-old girl that was in crisis, that would really scare me.”
So the cpc is “scary” because they explain what the abortion clinic actually does in reality? How about the abortion clinic is scarier for what they don’t tell or show you?
And here’s a little thought for you – If “Hi Mommy” is scary to you maybe you’re the scary one. Just a thought.

So sad what this world has come to…
"Hi Mommy" is one of the most wonderful phrases I have ever heard. How hard we need to be praying for all the lost and misinformed eople out there…

One annoying thing here is that, yes, writing "Hi, Mommy!" is "manipulative". They are trying to convince these girls not to have abortions. That is manipulation. (From Dictionary.com: Manipulate: 2. to negotiate, control, or influence (something or someone) cleverly, skilfully, or deviously )
Of course, "deviously" is the most commonly used connotation. But merely skillful manipulation is not a sin; in fact, strictly speaking, every use of language is an attempt at manipulation, including this post I am writing. The questions Time needs to ask (and won't, for the same reason pro-abortionists call themselves pro-choice) are, "Is what they are doing right and good?", and to a lesser extent, "Are they sincere?"

Guess what folks? If you are having an ultrasound and there is a baby there, you ARE a mommy!

"uses a lot of alarming, scary language and photographs that you don't typically see in a doctor's office,"
Not true. My dentist has horrid photographs of people with gingivitis and other grotesque mouth diseases. The ortho my kids go to has posters of teeth that had been neglected, yuck. The dermatologist office I visit has all sorts of posters of different type of skin diseases and acne.
So the writer has lied in 'vivid detail' in order to manipulate the reader into believing that the use of photography in "12 and Delaware" are doing something unique in the medical profession.

Amy.. good point. My OB shares an office with a Urologist, and as a result there are all sorts of special pictures of Kidney stones on the walls.. horrific…
Of course, Kidney stones are horrific because they're weird anomolies that must be removed…
so, by analogy, the filmakers find fetal imagery horrific because……
BTW–if the ultrasound techs in the movie are volunteers who also work in OB offices, they may not be being 'manipulative'– they may just be treating these women like they do their PAYING patients.
I've frequently had ultrasounds where the tech adds cutsie captions to the printouts,… you know "Future Soccer star!" on a picture of the baby's leg kicking. Or "Look at what I can do!" when the baby is blowing bubbles. Or yes, even, "I love you, Mom!" on a picture where the baby has one of those adorable, contented, prenatal smiles. It's what ultrasound techs DO at these things. Because they frequently chose their career based on the fact that they LIKE SPENDING ALL DAY LOOKING AT BABIES.
(When we lost our son and had an ultrasound to confirm that he was dead, the tech cried. These people LOVE BABIES.)
But we do live in a society where babies are a scary evil to be feared rather than cool little people whp want to grow into big people.

Of course, I can think of times when 'Hi Mom' have been scary words. They usually involve a toddler. And a stool. And either knives, gas stoves, or scissors.

I've seen the documentary. And I was surprised by its relatively favorable treatment of the pro-life activists. Other than a few instances, they came off very well.
