Follow the logic here. A congresswoman is saying that not enough women have access to abortion due to the Hyde Amendment prohibiting funding abortions for poor women. But then she says that the government should finance abortions but adds that she doesn’t believe there would be no increase in abortion. Huh?
Could anyone in their right mind actually believe that abortions are too scarce? Are abortions really that hard to get? I think fifty million babies would differ.
CNS reports:
Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding of abortion except in certain cases, should be repealed, and also said “there’s no evidence” that increasing access to abortion services encourages people to get abortions.
At an event on Capitol Hill sponsored by the Center for Reproductive Rights to call for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment, CNSNews.com asked Rep. Schakowsky, “So, increasing access to abortion, you think, does not encourage some people to get abortions?”
Rep. Schakowsky said, “No, there’s no evidence of that around the world, where access to abortion is more available but somehow women are more inclined to get one.”
Once again there seems to be a weird focus on ensuring that poor women get abortions. You’d almost think that Democrats thought that poor people are unfit to have children or something.
I have to wonder if Dems are going to make a push to repeal the Hyde Amendment during the lame duck session of Congress before Republicans can actually take the seats they win in the November election. Stay vigilant.

Right now, the Hyde Amendment is a dam holding back a floodtide. I pray that we can keep it up long enough to drain the swamp.

my head is still spinning…so, we need more access to abortion funding for the people who DON'T want abortions? If not enough people are getting them right now (because of the lack of funding), when we give them money to get one, they won't, after all? I give up.

Hopefully her seat is up for election this November, and we can say "buh-bye" to another socialist. If not, just wait until it is… we must persevere.
