Funny that many of the same people who want to legalize drugs are the same people who want to make hamburgers illegal.

Dutchman, you should have stopped while you were ahead. Every single PSA is subsidzed by the Feds. And you don't really equate eating hamburgers as the root cause of the alleged child obesity program (the consumption of high fructose corn syrup by far is a much bigger problem)? This ad makes a spurious correlation that has no basis in fact. The consumption of beef is no more a problem in this nation than the consumption of tofu.
If you wish to go after a new hobby horse, how about stating the epidemic of childhood STDs? The very same people who would like nothing more than to ban hamburgers have absolutely no problem with 2 fourteen year olds taking a roll in the hay; heck, they encourage such behavior. You won't see a HHS/Ad Council PSA warning about dangers of pre-marital sex.

Please, help me spread the word on this. My name is Chillbear Latrigue. I create videos and post them every Thursday Night. This idea was stolen from a video I posted a month ago.

I might go to McDonalds more than once per year if heroin were on the menu.

1. The boy or the mother are not overweight- definitely not obese; quite thin actually.
2. They are eating a hamburger in their home…did the mother make the hamburger in her kitchen? The boy's hamburger seems to be just a bun and a piece of meat. Bread and meat – that is junk food?
How could heroin ever be equated with "junk food"? Neither is the same, one does not become addicted to "junk food" as one does to heroin. (I have never seen one steep to the depths of depravity to get a hamburger as one would to get their next heroin fix. Eating a hamburger or "junk food" does not do the damage to one's life or health like heroin does.

Unreal! I see comments suggesting that it's irresponsible (and equated with drug use) for parents to allow kids to eat hamburgers, ice cream, cheetos etc. These items in moderation are not irresponsible. As usual, instead of expecting people to take care of themselves and make choices, the liberals want Papa Government to step in and take control.
The Government is not your parent. There is nothing wrong with giving your child a hamburger from time to time.

This ad trivializes heroin addiction.
Anyone who knows squat about marketing could see how vile it would be to put this where a heroin addict might see it.
It is a disgusting ad FOR heroin use methods!

Four ounces of lean beef, a bread roll and a small salad with dressing is a Big Mac, deconstructed. It's amazing how much magical thinking people invest in "fast" food.
Well, that and hamburgers are American, so they function as a good proxy.

Well… now I know what I'll be having for lunch.
Those old PSAs about smoking didn't interest me much. But when the gov't started to persecute people who smoked, I started seriously thinking about taking up the habit. I still don't smoke because my wife would kill me, but if they keep it up…

Drive a car after shooting heroin.
Drive a car after eating a hamburger.
Exactly the same thing, except that it's not at all. This ad engages in what's known as "defining addiction down."
Analogy FAIL.

ROTFLAO…..yet we're living longer and we're healthier as a nation than ever.
What a total steaming pile of liberal, nanny-state-loving crap!
Hamburgers "Bad" very, very "Bad"

Wow. I'm learning a great deal from this thread…
for example, a good burger ~ heroin; and Dutchdude's father was in/is from Australia!
(FWIW – "Glad Wrap" was 1st made & named in Oz)

I have to agree with Magda. After the initial shock of watching this ad wore off, it struck me that any recovering drug addict who used syringes might be extremely tempted to use again if he/she saw this. This ad is cruel, and whoever dreamed it up has NO regard for those who struggle to stay clean. But I guess anything is better than being subjected to the ugliness of fat people, eh? What a sick ad.
Who knows, maybe the drug cartels sponsored this (I mean that tongue-in-cheek).

Dutchman, I wasn't aware that Madison Avenue acumen is hereditary–I'm impressed that your talent for this kind of BS has been passed down through the generations.
October 4, 2010 at 4:22 pm
Damn.
I'm going to McDonald's RIGHT NOW!!!

I am a rancher. And I eat beef-grass fed beef.
Which is very healthy.
I am also a science teacher.
Most Americans do not seem to understand that children need large amounts of protein during their developmental stages, as well as adults.
Proteins are made of amino acids.
And you need these to build the proteins your body needs to function.
I hate to say this, but these kinds of ads are very similar to the smear campaigns used by vegan groups, like PETA, to stop humans from eating meat.
News flash-humans are omnivores.
We need to eat meat.
Without fake food made by modern technology, a lot of vegans wouldn't have anything near a healthy diet as to what is possible now.

The sheeple will fall for this latest propaganda. It's all about CONTROL…today the hamburger, tomorrow….. the children will pray to the state! Wake up Amarica! The camel continues to get his nose under the tent. Political correctness will be the downfall of this country. We are under a government of leftist ideologues. PRAY FOR OUR NATION…..and VOTE!

Obesity is a personal problem, not a problem to be solved by the govt.
October 4, 2010 at 5:00 pm
It wasn't the PSA's that decreased littering. It was the $500-$1000 fines that did it. So to decrease hamburger consumption should we charge people that much per burger? I'd go bankrupt to add a piece of cheese!
October 4, 2010 at 5:04 pm
Maybe it's a McD burger and they need the heroin to stomache it. Now an In-N-Out burger would need no such illegal support. Ahhh. There's the real message.

Wow! Just wow! This is as far out there in LEFT field as was the attempt by the 0bamanation to STEAL ANOTHER $8 billion from the Food Stamps program to pay for ….
Wait for it ….
another nutrition bill which is reportedly a priority for Michelle Obama.
Get it yet? STARVE the poor to educate the masses. Yeah, that sounds like a plan … IF you are one of the Communist stylin Democrat Politicians!
