My brother and co-blogger Patrick has been out deer hunting a few times this season and he’s caught…NOTHING. Nada. But I’m not here to rub it in ’cause that’s not how I roll.
But I’m sure that when he does actually succeed the picture of his conquest is going to look something like this little circle of life picture:

Pat,
If he caught a dear he'd be pretty darn good since you normally shoot them with either a rifle or bow and arrow, depending on the
season. Not being a hunter I would not know if the timing of these "styles" overlap or if they run concurrently.
If he did it by hand, though, I'd like to see the footage of him catching
a deer. It would be unique, although I have seen people feed deer out of their hands on occasion. I just had visions of him out running and outmauveuvering a buck trying to elude him rather than goring him.

Have you guys seen Top Shot on History? They don't shoot animals, but you get to see contestants handle some pretty cool weapons.

Speaking of Fail, this is an elk, not a deer.

Anon commenting on Anon:
Anon of the first part is correct. While elk and deer are related at the level of Family Cervidae, they are of different a different Genus. Elk are of Genus Cervus but deer of Genus Odocoileus. To say that an elk is a kind of deer is like saying a fox (Genus Vulpes) is a kind of dog (Genus Canis). A fox might be dog-like and vice versa, but a fox is not a kind of dog and a dog is not a kind of fox just as an elk is not a kind of deer. Hate to split hares (Genus Lepus), but hair were made to split. Just my useless contribution – Anon of the third part.

Hilarious but disturbing. What might have happened to the hunter. I hope it was just photoshopped with that mountain lion (or whatever feline family/genus it is) looking interested.

To funny! @Anonymous… I love that you talked about Cervus vs. Odocoileus and Vulpes vs Canis, that made my day!
@Rick… it could be photoshopped, but honestly most photos that lay people have of mountain lions (Puma concolor) were taken unknowingly. It's only after the pictures are developed they realize they had such a close encounter. Cougars can see, smell, and hear you long before you are aware of their presence!

@Matt, my brother is a deer hunter too and goes to all the seasons – including the week for musket rifles. I remember him using something like female deer urine to attract the males – for what it's worth.

You do not catch a deer with a rifle, you kill one. Be a man – use real words.
By the way I will out trying to kill a deer and collect a trophy on the weekend of the 30th.
