Follow the logic used by NBC Today’s show here. They posit that because of a spate of recent celebrity breakups and some shows highlighting polygamy maybe monogamy is done for.
Yeah, because we all take our life cues from David Arquette. Al Kresta wonders if its a case of the tail wagging the dog.

Monogamy hasn't been "an excepted rule" for a long time- in terms of the world.

Wow! The way she posits it alone makes me really nervous? A rule? Why are people so afraid to say "societal good"????

It's always interesting how people confuse the terms "normal" and "common" and use them interchangeably. Monogamy may certainly be becoming less common, but it is certainly always normal/natural.

Because if one says "societal good", then the opposite would be evil or bad. Remember, we don't do "evil" in this country, we simply have different ideas of what "good" is.

The OT has some high profile polygamists. As I recall, polygamy did not work out so well for them.

People also confuse "natural" and "good". Arsenic is natural (occurs in nature). As is viper venom.
Just because polygamy occurs in nature (or even other cultures) does not mean it is good. How well has polygamy worked out for women in Islam?
