Sinead O’Connor has long been one of the leading anti-Catholic celebrities of our time. And in our time that takes some doing.
But Sinead really outdid herself in a recent interview. She didn’t just say that the Vatican should be burned to the ground. She said the %$^@#$ Vatican should be burned to the ground. And that if Jesus was around he’d burn it to the ground.
Soooo…Sinead O’Connor believes Jesus is an arsonist. It’s possible I guess this comes from a misinterpretation of Luke which states: “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Hey, maybe she’s a literalist.
But you’ve got to read all of her comments to really appreciate how looney tunes she actually gets in this interview…

The woman is a sad piece of work. I recommend we pray for her reversion to the Faith.

Didn't she use to be a singer or something?

That really made me laugh. Ironic is the word that comes to mind, a hate spewer she is. Sinead, "Nothing compares to you," in the craziness of the mind category that is!

@ Subvet
I agree. Sad; pathetic really. Another has-been desperately seeking attention at the expense of another.
May she wake up before she digs an even bigger hole for herself.

I think her brains fell out when she last shaved her head…

"But Sinead really outdid herself in a recent interview."
Sinead is long past really outdoing herself at this point in her life. She really outdid herself 2 decades ago when she tore up a photo of the Holy Father on Saturday Night Live.

Her own brother asked the media, a long time ago, to leave her alone as she's not mentally well-balanced. It's those who interview her who should be ashamed.

But didn't Jesus kick out all the merchants from the temple? Maybe she's right. Maybe Jesus would approve of all the Vatican's wealth. Who knows. Money is good. That's why the Vatican has so much of it. And if they are about to convince people to give it to them, so be it.

Nice to see she has mellowed in her old age.
With this kind of socially-accepted rage targeted at a proper target, Maybe she can fill the open analyst position at NPR.

@Anon@6:06 ~ Most of the Vatican's wealth is in art and architecture. And as I don't for see the sale of St. Peter's Basilica in the near future I promise they aren't as rich as you think.

Regardless of O'Connor's behavior and irresponsible rhetoric, the vast majority of you are missing the point. On a broader level, she's right. Jesus would not have approved of the pervasive corruption, arrogance, rampant careerism and lust for power and prestige that have infested the Vatican for centuries now. If you don't believe that, then ask yourselves the following:
1. Why did the Church wait until Protestantism became a legitimate threat to its power to call the Council of Trent? Why wasn't it called when Luther was nailing his theses to the Wittenburg church door? Why didn't the Church do anything to address the legitimate issue of selling indulgences?
2. Why did it take centuries for a pope (Benedict XVI in this case) to repent publicly for clerical sex-abuse? Remember, St. Alphonsus Liguouri suggested that perpetrators be castrated more than three centuries ago.
