Lunatics. Some nutty family decided it would be a good idea to hand out condoms to kids when they came trick or treating at their home. And, of course, they’re shocked SHOCKED! that anyone would be offended.
The Statesmen Journal reports:
Some teenage trick-or-treaters received condoms in their bags on Halloween night in Silverton.
For the couple who handed out the prophylactics, the act was a community service, health education and a message of pregnancy prevention.
For the father of one 14-year-old girl who got them, the act was an intrusion of family privacy and a violation of his right to raise his daughter as he wishes.
Someone should tell this family that Halloween is supposed to be about things that go bump in the night, not bump and grind in the night.
You ever notice that crazy people don’t know they’re crazy? And here’s the funnier part. While most people will readily acknowledge that these people are nutty, they’ll see it as perfectly normal that their children’s schools do the same exact thing every single day. And what’s even funnier? Kids are walking around on Halloween with those little UNICEF boxes whose proceeds go towards the distribution of free condoms all over the world.
So what’s the lesson? Handing out a hundred condoms to kids makes you the neighborhood nut. Handing out a billion condoms and you’re a self righteous taxpayer funded organization.
(Thanks to Dr. Kyle Johnson for the tip on this story.)

But it's Oregon, after all. What else could you expect an enlightened couple to hand out?

Who would trust a condom from a stranger anyways? Creepy!

At least they weren't filled with candy.

Maybe they were flavored?

THAT was more horror than I want – even at Halloween!

Condoms that's disgusting!! They are sinful. There are so many lunatics in the world today. Man should procreate not stop procreation.

I think its odd that environmentalist-types are so up on condoms. As we saw at the Commonwealth games, these things are a hazard for sewage treatment plants. Spreading millions of them all over the third world rather than a no-waste option like NFP (or Cyclebeads)is gross and insane. They don't biodegrade, they certainly cant be re-used, and they pose a disease hazard too. Why condoms?!? Why not a better solution?

Sick minded people that have only one thought on their mind would stoop so low. I think they should have been fined for being stupid. In fact,
we need to put a "stupid" law in the books and fine $500 for such dumb acts.

@sand mama: exactly people should use condoms they should just have kids. kids are important. and there aren't enough kids in the world and kids are much better for the environment. at least better than condoms!!

This is one thing where the feminists actually may have given us some help. During the 90's, feminists saddled colleges, workplaces and the public with regulations regarding sexual harassment. Often those regs included language that giving sexual devices or leaving them in conspicuous places was a form of harassment.
We ought to start looking through the applicable regs and applying them. Where you really see this is colleges–so when your RA leaves the bowl of free condoms in the hall, check out the sexual harassment code in your student handbook.

Yes, terrible move. Very arrogant on the part of the condom givers.
BTW, why is a 14-year-old going trick or treating anyway?

Best comment ever.

Good question.

So it's okay to encourage unhealthy eating and rotten teeth, but not safe sex? I didn't realize Halloween was a Catholic holiday, though I should have considered the possibility since the Catholics co-opted so many other indigenous and pagan holidays.
