I can’t afford to take all my kids to Disney but I would hope that if I did announce to my kids that we were going to Disneyworld it would go a little bit better than this. Or a LOT better than this.

she did it all wrong. It sounds like the kids were looking forward to something for a long time and she just switched it up on them. thats her bad

I'm with Anon… sounds as if she had them geared up for something else and changed it at the last minute. I can understand about plans changing, but to tell a kid about visiting someone and getting their hopes up about it only to change it on them isn't right.

This (coupled with the fact that we would have to sell the house to afford it) is exactly why we have never taken our kids to Disneyworld. :p
Our kids aren't too good with surprises. Now that I think about it – they aren't too good with plans either. This is why we keep our mouths shut and drag them along.

When our two oldest were 4 and 6 we did surprise them with Disney. But since we were going to spend a day at Sea World first, we decided not to tell them, figuring the whole day at Sea World would be crap, waiting for Disney the next day. We arrived on a Saturday and went to Mass and then dinner. Evidently we must have passed one of the Disney entrances because during dinner our 6 year old asked, "Can we go to Disney World while we're here? I saw a sign for it back there." The big surprise was blown and the day at Sea World was, indeed, crap.

Don't jerk with your kids that way. Obviously, fun for you and not fun for them. They were obviously anticipating something and it was abruptly taken away. Part of enjoying something is anticipating it. I'd cry too.

I'm guessing this is not one of the clips that Disney will be showing on their commercials?

Wellllllllll…while I agree that these children might be reasonably disappointed that they are not about to do what they thought they were, I still find their attitudes and reactions reflective of spoiled and jaded children (baby excepted — she's just responding to the tension!). Disney World ain't exactly boot camp. Then, again, you can tell a bit about how they were raised by the way their mother talks back to them. Ugh! to the whole thing.

I'm with Sophie on this one, I cried every time my husband told me that, too!
Dick must be a wonderful person…better than Walt anyway.

I am constantly amazed at parents who subject their kids to international scrutiny, if not humiliation, when they post "family moments" on Youtube or some other forum.
Granted, there are some beautiful (cute, inspiring…) moments worth sharing (…and the world desperately needs reminders of truth and goodness), but whatever happened to discretion? The mother should be willing to put her face on camera if she is willing to expose her children.
Dumb mum award.

I have a different take on this whole issue. It looks like Mom there bought the whole Disney marketing scheme hook, line and sinker. Nevertheless, the kids didn't. Disney shows these ridiculous, schmaltzy commercials showing kids lighting up over going there, or the winning Superbowl MVP announcing that he's taking his family to Disney, and people buy into it. Don't get me wrong, I like Disney World. I grew up in South Florida and have probably visited the Magic Kingdom over 20 times in my life.
It just seems like these kids may never have been there, and may not have been exposed to the Disneyification of everything childlike, so they didn't have a particular emotional investment in going there. Perhaps they would have had they not been surprised at the last minute, like most of the above commenters mentioned. Seems like they had their hearts set on something else and were disappointed by it.
My guess is that they eventually did go and they enjoyed their visit, as well as seeing their family in Florida.

Why would anyone want to go to disney? Yay, stuffed mice. Yay, lets give our money to a company that sexualizes young children but ignore that fact. Yay, lets get cable television and a flat screen tv and rot in mediocrity. Yay, disney is so cute. Blech.

Since Disney started their neo-pagan tree-hugging crap with Pochohantas (that looks mispelled) and their horrid gay pride day, I'd have the same reaction, or worse, to the idea of going to Disney.
No one can afford to spend their money finance an agenda which is antithetical to our faith. Disney hasn't been pro-family, as in in Jesus, Mary, Joseph in years.

I find this sad… there seems to be a numbness and loss of childhood innocence and wonder in their lack of excitement. I totally agree that Disney isn't my favorite place in the world and I don't plan on taking our kids there, however, children of a different generation would have been excited, I think, for a surprise, or at least have a little charity to see in their mother's face that she was excited for them… Awwwww…. just sad…

This is EXACTLY how it happened with my family! They told us we were going to the beach in our state and then SURPRISE! "But I wanted to jump on the beds in Virginia Beach!" said my sister in tears.
November 12, 2010 at 2:37 pm
To be fair they said they were driving all night and I don't care what anyone says, kids need a good deal of sleep to function.
I didn't get that the mom told them they were going to some other place, but maybe the kids assumed it from they direction they were driving and that they went at night etc.
I hope they had a good time when they got there though.

I didn't find this video amusing at all… it was pretty sad and pathetic to see how these kids reacted… very telling at how our kids are being raised today. Spoiled? Self-absorbed? Just a little???? The way the mother (I assume it was their mom) spoke to them – another "wow."
Sad. Sad. Sad.
This is far more than them just being tired. Ooooh, and love the "I am so cute, the world revolves around me" graphic tee shirt on the toddler. UGH!!!
