A woman my wife is friendly with just announced she was pregnant and that even though she was just a few weeks into her pregnancy she was going to learn the gender of the baby in the 7th week.
My wife said she didn’t think that information was available until much later but then this woman told her about a fairly new product, an at home gender detector kit, that can work just seven weeks into a pregnancy. When my wife told me about this I’ve got to tell you my heart sank. It’s a sad world where I find this to be bad news.

We are certainly living in both a mad and a sad world today. I can remember Fr. Michael Scanlan talking on how the most recent couple of generations have displayed the need for immediate gratification. I believe that immediate gratification and selfishness are causing great damage in our culture today.

I think the question I have is whether "abusus non tollit usum" applies here. If the intent is to make sex selection abortions easier then of course we should oppose this. However, if it is the misuse which is the problem, then our focus should be the misuse.

I hate change. I wish everything would just stay the same, like years ago. Slavery wasn't that bad.

Anonymous,
Slavery has not been eradicated, just rebranded as "freedom."
Back to the original topic: to me, it's another example of the prevalent Western mindset (esp. regarding the worship of science) that says "if it's possible, then it's permissible." The attitude expressed above by "Anonymous" is just another expression of this new/old secular religion: all change is good and is to be accepted uncritically, especially with no thought of near-term or long-range consequences, ie. if we can, we should!

It's already documented that sex-selection abortions take place among Asians in America. This will just make it easier… 🙁

Dumbest troll ever . Things should not change unless, of course, the Church allows the change, then it's okay of course.

This is so sad. I find it surprising that so many of the people who abort an "unwanted" gender never seem to make any connection having difficulty conceiving later.
