I hate my neighbors. Well, not hate hate, but ya know–hate.
By the look of things, on average, I would say that we got about 18 inches of snow. However, the way the fickle winds swirl in my neighborhood, all the snow that rightfully belongs on my neighbors driveways across the street, now resides on mine.
I have drifts of 3 feet on my driveway while the blacktop of their driveways is visible almost until the street. An here is the kicker. They have snow-blowers. I don’t.
So, I was thinking. Shouldn’t their be some law for the fair distribution of snow and snow-blowers? Truth is, I suppose I could have spent my money and purchased a snow-blower before the storm, but I spent it on a Wii-fit and a Kindle (which is really cool by the way), but that shouldn’t matter. They have snow-blowers and I don’t and I need it more than they do.
Didn’t Barack Obama promise a snow-blower in ever garage, or something?
On second thought, maybe I will just send my kids out to shovel while I read my kindle. The Wii-fit is still in the box. I will get to it, ya know, later.

I agree about the Kindle; very cool! And I'm hoping some entrepreneurial youngsters will offer to shovel snow so I don't have to.

Hey, snow shoveling is a very honorable penance in winter-stricken regions! I'm not certain about the Kindle; I prefer actual paper (preferably leather-bound, but that is expensive — I can get only one leather book generally once a year)

@Z. Hayden – I gifted my husband the Kindle with lighted leather cover. The best of both worlds, no?
We love our Kindle!
Just downloaded some Chesterton books for free from the Amazon Store. They carry hundreds of classics for free!

We can relate. My husband spent over an hour outside shoveling our driveway, and when he came in, not ten minutes passed before the snow plow came along and deposited a two or three-foot wall of snow at the end of the driveway. Plus, our garage door opener died, so in order to avoid the cost of repairing it, we've been just opening and shutting it manually, which really isn't so bad, though I'd gotten pretty spoiled with the touch-of-a-button opening and closing.
Our neighbor has one of those driveable snowblowers, and he sometimes comes along and clears the end of our driveway for us, which to me means that a plate of cookies is in order (God bless him!).
My son will often volunteer to go out and shovel just to get some quiet time away from his sisters. He said the other day that he decided he could shovel snow for money. I mistook the word money for mommy and told him so. He politely answered, "Oh, I see how you could have made that mistake, but the word I'm using is spelled m-o-n-e-y." I laughed and asked, "So, who's gnona pay you?" He matter-of-factly replied, "Oh, I don't know. Either one of you."

I have both the Kindle and the iPad. Both are great. But, nothing comes close to a bound book in the hand.
Now, regarding snow and snow blowers. Perhaps, the problem is not the lack of access to a snow blower. Rather, in the age of Obama and the season of giving, maybe we just need to spread the wealth around. I suggest picking up a load of snow with your shovel and promptly dumping it at the end of your neighbor's driveway.

… Repeat the process until the neighbor is effectively barricaded behind the snow li e you will have created.

We've had snow here on the ground for almost a month. Got 15 inches overnight on St Nicholas Day alone. After that Lake Effect for another 10 days. Nothing as dramatic as a Nor'easter, however. Can't wait for Friday when we will be above 40 deg for the first time in 6 weeks.
Just a bit of weather history: in my neck of the woods we went 15 straight years with mild winters. Three out of the last 4 have been below normal temps and above nomral precip (using a 1960-1990 average).

Talk about unfair distribution of snow! I've been waiting patiently for a good ol' lake effect blizzard courtesy of Lake Michigan. I'm still waiting. I wish the storm would have seen fit to spread the wealth. My driveway could use a good snowfall! (It helps that I don't have to worry about snow removal since my landlord takes care of that.)

Our last house was situated in a slight dip in the road. We had a super bad winter one year and would wake up to 6 – 8 feet of snow in front of our garage door and the neighbors driveways would be bare.
This year I bought a cute little Snow Joe (on special – $30.00 off at Costco.com) thereby ensuring that we'll never see another snow flake. Ever!

And, yes – the above comment is from the "real" me.

I don't believe that is the real Adrienne who wrote the comment above. She's dumb, but she isn't that stupid. I suspect a troll!!

I'm not a snowbound liberal. However, I'm a healthcare liberal because I believe children and adults with pre-existing medical conditions should be able to get healthcare/health insurance. It's a respect life thing…some people wouldn't understand.

Why are you over here harassing me and giving CMR a bad name? Why don't you just come to my blog with your nonsense?
December 29, 2010 at 10:40 am
Adrienne, your blog seems to be oriented towards simple-minded, mean-spirited people. I'll pass. There is so much good and beauty in the world, yet you seem to be fill with so much hatred and meanness. For as long as I live, I'll never understand people like you.
