20 years from now, when he is a sex addicted and has AIDs from homosexual relationships, she will look back and wonder what went wrong.

Seriously? This is one of the most insane things I've ever seen. Five year olds don't know what they want, or what's acceptable behaviour and what's not. According to my parents when I was five I wanted to drive a garbage truck more than anything in the world. Should I be mad that my mother didn't push me to pursue my dream? This is all about the mother and in a sane world she'd have her kids taken away.

Tolerance and acceptance: the best that relativism can bring us. Someday this nation will recognize that relativism is a failed religion.

She talked about having "family meetings" and "we as a family," but I did not hear her say anything about her husband. Is he still in the picture? I would love to see him interviewed.

This mother should be arrested for child abuse and NBC should be ashamed for promoting the damage done to this poor child. Does anyone really think this is a good thing or the child chose it?

I can't imagine how much ridicule this poor boy must deal with on a daily basis. There is NO WAY that cruel things aren't said to him on a daily basis. Who would put their child through this hurt intentionally??????? If I let my son do every little thing his heart desired he'd be a complete monster…that's the point of parenting, to show children how to live out the lives God intends them to live.

This reminds of a video from The Onion. It's called "Finding Masculine Halloween Costumes".

My little brother wanted a doll buggy when he was about 3 or 4, because I had one. My father wasn't happy when my mother gave him an old one, and her instincts were right: my brother filled it with rocks and sticks and dragged it around.
I imagine my brother wanted to dress up as a princess once in awhile because I did, and we were the only two playing at the time. and I am sure my mother urged him to be a prince instead. It may not be easy, but it's clear how to guide a child on issues like this.

If the boy decided to stop eating because he had a 'bad" body image, would she encourage this behavior also? One of our sons wanted to wear his sister's dresses and it was cute for a day, but he eventually knew that pants were the dress of choice and appropriateness. What parent would encourage him to go against his gender. That's just crazy talk. Where is the male influence that a boy needs so desperately?

I allow my children to basically pic out their own clothes but I also buy their clothes so I know what they have. There is a huge difference between letting your child wear polka dots and stripes versus a boy wearing a stinkin' pink tutu and sparkly leotards in public.
So when do we get to hear the acceptance speech for those of us that accept our boys that wear jeans and a t-shirt and carry a big stick that they pretend is a gun? ooops… sorry… that might offend someone so we mustn't let our boys do that now should we? It might promote violent tendencies for these young minds. Let's ignore the idea that allowing young boys wear dresses and look like a girl might promote tendencies where they think they're a girl… and start acting as one? (oh yeah, being gay is a born thing, right?) So am I missing something?

Children are profoundly influenced by the dynamic of their family situation, and I suspect that this is the case here. No mention is made of the father in the interview and this probably has a lot to do with what this boy wants to be.
In my own experience, I would like to cite the example of a child I have seen grow up to be gay. Years ago, I knew that there would be trouble with their son because of the way the mother lorded it over the father because she made more money than he did. Naturally, seeing the father emasculated thus, the poor child failed to identify with his father and ended up not merely gay but rather effeminate as well. Of course, now the parents say "We knew he was different even when he was little," but really this is just their way of denying their own culpability.

that young boy certainly looks happy!!! the smiles came after the show when he got his treat.

The poor little guy looks so completely uncomfortable. Esp. around 2:39 – 2:45 when she is asking him questions.
He may in fact like wearing dresses, but this mom is writing the script all by herself.

Several thoughts come to mind. First, a boy cannot be a princess, by definition, no more than a girl can be a prince. So, the message here is that we choose our sex and, since all choices are legitimate because to deny anyone their choice is to supress their identity and creativity, why can't a boy decide to be a girl, even at five? That this is couched in terms of acceptance and tolerance means that you must agree or you are a bigot.
Second, in the video that preceeds the interview, there is the mother, the father and the older brother. Where did the boy get the idea that he wanted to be a princess for Halloween? Where did the boy get the dresses and tutus clothes to wear? This isn't simply a mother accepting her child's preferences, but actively encouraging this direction. She said her first response was to redirect. Obviously, that strategy was surrendered after not too long. The child is only just five! She came to accept his being different as a result of the advice of his older brother, who was probably in the neighborhood of seven or eight (if that) when he rendered that advice. So, we now accept the advice of seven year olds on how to raise three year olds? She also says she wouldn't allow him to run around in public naked if that was his choice because it's a health and hygeine issue. Bunk! There are plenty of societies where people wear little to nothing. Most of them are in tropical rain forests, and the greatest threat to their immune systems comes when "civilized" people carry germs into their huts.
I think it's still more about the mother than the boy.

This woman is lying. A two year old is in diapers. He doesn't run to her car when picked up from daycare. And if he was playing in the day care costume box the costume would have been removed and put away before he as to go home.
