Just what kids need today -soft core porn on MTV. With some reckless drug use and violence thrown in for good measure. Guess the title? Skins. Ha! Could they be any more honest about how they’re enticing hormone fueled teens to tune in.
I can honestly say my kids don’t even know what MTV is but I know plenty o’ peeps that allow their kids to watch MTV.
Marcel Lejeune writes:
It is hard for a TV show to “push the boundaries” in our modern culture. What else is there to push? We have been bombarded with violence, sex, scandal, macabre / twisted stories, and more. Yet, producers continue to try to push because it creates buzz and buzz means more $$$. Don’t fool yourself, MTV doesn’t care a like about helping anyone but their investors and pocketbooks. So, I am not surprised to find out that they are pushing another sleazy show on our youth. But, what does surprise me is the level to which they have sunk this time.
What is it teenagers need? Is it MORE sex, drug abuse, irresponsible behavior, and license to do whatever they please? If so, then Skins is the show for them. If not, then it is time to do something. Here is a description from the NY Times on the show and the original in the UK:

Gross. Any parent who lets their kids watch this is as bad as the smut peddlers who are behind putting this garbage on TV.

MTV is the Devil's network.

MTV was always the devil's network- but remember 20 years ago when it played music? still bad, but with a point

How many Catholic colleges have MTV on their dormitory cable network? All of them who have cable?
If only our institutions were responsible enough to leverage their power against those who destroy modesty for fun and profit!

I read an article about this show in the New York Times and discovered that not a few of the teen writers were recruited from my old high school. This does not surprise me as this school (a public school) is known for it's arts and communications programs. However it saddens me that not only are the kids more than happy to work on this show but it's done with the full blessing of the school and it's administration. The school was never a bastion of morality IIRC from my days there but I would've thought there were *some* standards. The kids (and the school) very likely see it as something to put on their college applications to boost their standings. I cringe to think what they're doing to their souls. It's one thing to push the limits; it's another thing to wallow in degradation.

Now now remember, these things don't influence the actions or morals of people…unless they're said by a talk radio personality, FoxNews, or Sarah Palin…but when said by the entertainment industry, no problems there!

I stopped wacthing MTV (Music TeleVision) once they stopped you know, playing music. Which was about two years after they came on the air.
Much like the stupid moring radio shows on stations that allegedly play music – if I want to hear idiots talking, I would tune in to talk radio.

Are you kidding me? We're Catholics. We don't have to worry about this stuff.
Our families spend their evenings reading to one another from the Chronicles of Narnia and the lives of the saints. The older kids spend a little time each evening going over the catechism with the younger kids. We play board games together or gather around the piano, and wrap up the evening with a decade of the Rosary.
We enjoy one another's company and can not bear to sit around watching, watching, watching ANYTHING. Isn't that so?
With the upbringing we give them if they ever did catch a whiff of evil at a friends house, these young Catholics would know what to do about it. They'd be home pretty quick, you can bet.
So what's the problem exactly?

I never watch MTV. Does the show have sponsors to boycott?

I stopped watching MTV after they stopped showing music videos
