This is maybe the most awful thing I’ve ever read. I’m sorry to even report something like this.
Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey writes:
This may be as ghastly a story outside of the Tucson massacre as we’ll see all year … I hope. An abortionist arrested in Philadelphia faces eight counts of murder, one for the death of a patient, and the other seven for killing babies who survived his botched abortions. The district attorney alleges that Kermit Gosnell used a pair of scissors to sever their spinal cords:
A West Philadelphia abortion doctor, his wife and eight other suspects are now under arrest following a grand jury investigation.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 69, faces eight counts of murder in the deaths of a woman following a botched abortion at his office, along with the deaths of seven other babies who, prosecutors allege, were born alive following illegal late-term abortions and then were killed by severing their spinal cords with a pair of scissors. …
Last year, CMR did some research on this abortionist and wrote an extensive piece on Dr. Gosnell’s sordid history called History of an Abortionist.
You can continue reading the Hot Air piece on the current charges Gosnell faces by clicking here.

Still, the Catholic Clergy has a long history of pederasty and pedophilia with arrests being made weekly (Here's your latest including non-catholics as well, its not like they have a stranglehold on immorality http://joemygod.blogspot.com/2011/01/this-week-in-holy-crimes.html) and its not as if there has been any reporting of these crimes by other clergy, so you can see where people become hair-trigger suspicious about a possible institutionalized cover up regardless of if this is actually the case.

Whoops, wrong thread.

It is even more horrific to read the Grand Jury Report:

Well, the only difference between what he's charged with and what happens in what Carhart and other abortionists do is that the babies must have come out of the vagina too quickly to have the scissors jabbed into his/her skull while the head was still inside, thus not yet legally alive. Maybe people will finally admit to the barbarism that all abortion is…I'm not holding my breath but am continuing to pray.
Oh, and by doing it this way he didn't have to waste his precious money-making time to suck out the brains to collapse the head inside of Mom. May God heal those who have been injured by the lie of abortion and convert the hearts of those who work to keep this evil going.

You'll just "love" the spin: this guy is a bad guy who abused his position as an abortionist to do bad things, and so pro-lifers have to help *improve* access to abortion so that women won't be mistreated this way….

Also arrested in this case was a Pittsburgh area man who attended medical school, but never completed a residency program, and has never been licensed to practice medicine.

If you can stomach it, read the Grand Jury report, particularly the segment on the killing of viable babies starting on page 99. It is enough to convince you of the existence of evil in this world.

As a devout Catholic who is pro-choice, I can't help but wonder why this story is even getting media attention. I agree with all of you that late-term abortions may not always be the most appropriate decision but there is no need to get hysterical about this since most abortions are safe and performed earlier.
January 20, 2011 at 4:31 am
1) You can't be a devout Catholic who is pro-choice, since it's a nonnegotiable issue. It's like being a devout Catholic that thinks Jesus was really a Roman soldier's son.
2) The post isn't about abortion, it's about legally recognized murder of infants– the children were fully born and separate when they were stabbed to death.
3) We don't actually know how "safe" abortion is, as the statistics can't be complied (several states will not report them at all, several do not track abortion injuries); we can compile known deaths in a backwards way, and of course there is a nearly 100% fetal mortality rate (Very safe! Kills about half of those involved!)

yes, anonymous. you can't be a devout catholic if you believe in pro-choice, divorce, the use of contraceptives, eating meat on friday, having sex before marriage, masturbating, homosexuality is okay, not going to church every sunday in okay, giving less than 10% of your annual salary to the church, Mary was not a virgin, Joseph was Jesus' real father, eating the body and blood of a human at church on Sunday is not real, etc. These are NOT negotiable.
January 20, 2011 at 11:47 am
Yeah, why get hysterical about someone plunging scissors into tiny infants? If I said something like that I would prefer to remain anonymous, too.
January 20, 2011 at 2:55 pm
"a devout Catholic who is pro-choice"???
You are not devout, you are fooling yourself, but not us. The bumper sticker reads "You cannot be pro-choice and a Catholic". You must have skipped that part of the catechism…
January 20, 2011 at 2:56 pm
On the other hand, if you don't believe that killing a baby in utero or slightly past utero is wrong, you can be a devout liberal. In fact, you would probably be raised to liberal sainthood.
January 20, 2011 at 3:05 pm
Actually TotallyUninformedMom, somne of those are negotiable (disciplines vs. dogmas) – eating meat on Fridays and the 10% salary tithing. Not sure what you mean by "believe in." Everyone believes divorce and homosexuality exist. But they are not good things to be sought (homosexuality itself is disordered, but the sin is in acting on homosexual impulses, not simply for "being" homosexually oriented). As for the real presence, it is not the body/blood of a human, but The Divine Human. That does make a bit of difference.

The ultimate slander: “You are not a person” used by Roe v. Wade since 1973 to inflict abortion on over 53 million sovereign persons imposes the Federal Government as final arbiter of who is a person and who is not a sovereign person. The Federal Government does not endow sovereign personhood. “OUR CREATOR” endows sovereign personhood.
Fifty three million persons have had their hearts torn from their chest, their brains sucked out of their heads, and their arms and legs ripped from their bodies, in violation of the “LAWS OF NATURE AND NATURE’S GOD” .
Those persons who refuse to acknowledge “OUR CREATOR”, “THESE TRUTHS TO BE SELF-EVIDENT”, “THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL”, not born equal, our “UNALIENBALE RIGHTS OF LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS”, “ENDOWED BY OUR CREATOR”, will have exiled themselves from all self-evident truths and from our nation.
Roe v. Wade violated The Declaration of Independence. Feminists ridiculed our founding fathers as antiquated old men who knew nothing modern. They said that our founding principles were out of fashion. The feminists seized power and imposed tyranny over the individual. Profound ignorance ruled the Supreme Court. If the newly begotten virgin, an innocent person, is endowed by “OUR CREATOR” with an unalienable right to life as a self-evident truth, Blackmun and Brenan did not want to hear it. If every state law could be abrogated to impose abortion, the Court did it. Abortion was imposed upon all people. Taxpayers are being forced to fund what they believe to be, and is, the murder of a sovereign person.
The scandalized soul of an aborted child returns to his Creator, 53 million times, knowing that his mother did not want him.

@ anon: 9:55; OMG you are soooo right, I must have forgotten to read the bumper sticker. Thank you for the info.
@ anon: 10:05: It's all just dogma? But how can a devout catholic get divorce or be a homosexual? If they do they are going to Hell. The easiest thing to do is stop being Catholic. If they stop being a Catholic they are fine. Getting a divorce or being homosexual isn't a sin in all religions. If they start practicing another religion they will still go to heaven, just not the catholic heaven. And aren't we all Divine Humans?
January 21, 2011 at 5:10 pm
"Getting a divorce or being homosexual isn't a sin in all religions." [which I take to be referring to the things related to these that actually are sinful, not the state of having same-sex attraction or the state of being divorced, which aren't sinful in themselves]
…aaand 2+2=5 sometimes in *my* math class–come learn math from me, and your bridges will still stand up fine even when you use my more "accepting" arithmetic, since in my class it's true. Who cares if it actually accords with reality? 🙂
