The Vatican has hammered CMR, well it has if you listen to Stephen K. Ryan at MinistryValues.com. Mr. Ryan has dubbed us, along with others, as “Taliban Catholics” singled out for rebuke by the no less than the Pope himself in his call for those engaged in Catholic social media to be mindful that “”The proclamation of the Gospel requires a communication which is at once respectful and sensitive.”
Vatican Hammers Conservative Catholic Bloggers
You know who you are out there.
Vatican’s social communications office, Archbishop Claudio Celli, said it was certainly correct to direct the pope’s exhortation to some conservative Catholic blogs, YouTube channels and sites which, with some vehemence, criticize bishops, public officials and policies they consider not Catholic enough.
“Taliban Catholicism” is John Allen’s description of web-based McCarthyism on the rise in the Catholic blogosphere and undoubtedly this is what the Vatican was referring to.
Pressure is on to radically change the Roman Catholic Church in America, but it’s not coming from the usual liberal suspects. A new self proclaimed beed of theological conservatives has taken to blogs and YouTube spearheaded by Michael Voris to say the church isn’t Catholic enough. Many of these conservative catholics have been enraged by dissent that they believe has gone unchecked for decades, and unafraid to say so in the starkest language, these activists are naming names and unsettling the church.
-In the Archdiocese of Boston, parishioners are dissecting the work of a top adviser to the cardinal for any hint of Marxist influence.
-Bloggers are combing through campaign finance records to expose staff of Catholic agencies who donate to politicians who support abortion rights.
-RealCatholicTV.com, working from studios in suburban Detroit, is hunting for “traitorous” nuns, priests or bishops throughout the American church.
I suppose that “Bloggers are combing through campaign finance records to expose staff of Catholic agencies who donate to politicians who support abortion rights,” refers to CMR if not also others.
Good, we embrace our designation as Taliban Catholics. I think Mr. Ryan misinterprets the Pope’s words to mean that people with whom Mr. Ryan disagrees should shut up.
We here at CMR love the Church, love our Bishops, and even try to be respectful of stupid people. Stupid ideas, well that is another thing altogether.
Taking the Pope’s admonition to be repectful and sensitive, let me just say this to Mr. Ryan. I respect you. I am sensitive to you. I would like to know how you interpret the Pope’s words in a way that allows you to assert that the Vatican “hammers” conservative Catholics (aka people you don’t like) and to call us names like “Taliban Catholic.” Do you think that properly embraces what the Pope was getting at when he called for respect and sensitivity?
Now others, way less respectful and sensitive than I, might call such a thing blatant hypocrisy and downright laughingly stupid. But not me. No, not me.

RealCatholicTV is excellent and you can also see their videos on their youtube Channel.
The Apostles and The Saints could have been included in the above man's article, but he decided to pick on one of the most bold and courageous teachers that we have today: Michael Voris! May god Bless Mr. Voris and CreativeMinority as well and all those who speak the truth in love as we also honor the great Saint Paul today.
January 25, 2011 at 3:06 pm
Am I mistaken, or did Stephen Ryan threaten to punch someone? during a discussion of the Pope's call for respect and civility? in which Ryan accused CMR of failing to meet that standard? and in which Ryan was fully exposed as plagiarizing?
Beautiful! Delicious irony! Better than fiction!
LOL!!!

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen once said "the people are the only ones who can save the church, by speaking out when a wrong needs righted." Thank God, for those who expose actions within the church that are evil and corrupt.

To AMdg… do not forget the "In the nose" part.
Let's cut to the chase… Michael Voris for Pope. There is serious man-love going on here over Mr. Voris's boyish good looks and his sweaters. How else do you defend a man that has been seriously called out by the Vatican.
read my article mr. amdg at http://ministryvalues.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1430&Itemid=214
i fully stand by my work. You can say what you want to say. The truth is the article is mine and has been fully attributed. go read it.

Steve,
There's a little rule about holes and digging that you might want to heed before you post another dozen comments.
January 25, 2011 at 3:53 pm

You do not know that of which you speak, my friend. Provide exact quotes, please.
And I can tell you – Voris has fans in Rome. One pretty big one, in particular.

to larry d
here is exact quote
"Archbishop Claudio Celli, said it was certainly correct to direct the pope's exhortation to some conservative Catholic blogs, YouTube channels and sites which, with some vehemence, criticize bishops, public officials and policies they consider not Catholic enough." who do you think he they are talking about Elmer Fudd?
YouTube channels? "sites which, with some vehemence, criticize bishops" ? I don't think there is a long list of folks who the Vatican was talking about that fits that profile.

AMDG – Thank you for calling our attention to Mr. Ryan's "civil" comment:
We do not need to copy anybody -. If you were here in this room I would punch you right in the nose you little pin-headed weasel ( to the combat editor I understand I am name calling here but RC's accusation is unsubstantiated BS)
Here is a direct link to that comment in this thread (at the end).
I missed that the first time I read it.
Steve – you just wrote an article about civility and you express a desire to punch someone in the nose? Mercy!
You then go on to say to AMDG:
i fully stand by my work. You can say what you want to say. The truth is the article is mine and has been fully attributed. go read it.
It "has been" fully attributed after you were called out. The snapshot I took last night before you knew you got caught, reveals it was published without any citations, links or attributions. And, the text was not in quotations, italicized, or blockquoted. It was presented as if it were original content on Minsitry Values.
You keep saying it wasn't done yet. It seems that articles are always done at Ministry Values until something gets called out.
Steve – I think you need to take a break and re-tool. Something tells me that any sponsors you have on your website were aware that there was plagiarism taking place at Ministry Values they would not be too happy.
If it walks like a duck….
January 25, 2011 at 4:54 pm
Oh, and Steve – I don't know what you pulled that is tampering with my freezepage. The original time stamp was for about 6:34pm yesterday. The timestamp now reads 12:34am today and has all of your edits.
Either you have done something at your site which is tricking freezepage or someone is engaged in unethical practices at a site I am paying to permit me to take unchangeable snapshots.
Here is the proof. My comment was made in this thread (which I cannot edit) with the freezepage link in question at 7:42pm yesterday (January 24th).
How could it possibly have a timestamp of 12:34am on January 25?
Someone is tampering with data and in a way that is not only unethical and downright sinful, but potentially unlawfully (one wrong often causes the offender to commit more wrongs for cover-up, which is rooted in the sin of pride)
I have every intention of investigating this with Freezepage.com since I am a paid subscriber.
To the average reader here, you have revealed a trail of incivility, and unethical behavior. You've just exposed it all on your own, very shamefully.
By the way. There were no less than 3 copies of your page made around the same time last night – one of them a PDF, which you cannot change. That will be a big help in our investigation. The other was made at a site which will remain unnamed at this time and should help us to determine whether the tampering took place at Ministry Values or at Freezepage.com
January 25, 2011 at 4:59 pm
Oops, forgot the link to the thread where I first published the freezepage link at 7:42pm yesterday. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out tampering has taken place if my freezepage shows a timestamp of 12:34am today.
The question is: Who dunnit?
I can't help but wonder if this too is a fruit, Steve. What would the "gospa" think of such behavior. The Church condemns any form of "the ends justifies the means" in Veritatis Splendor (75).
January 25, 2011 at 5:23 pm
By the way the smartest guy in the room is Paul Zummo but against his advice I am going to pick up the shovel again.
Diane I find it odd that you call my own edits "tampering" – its just bizarre.
I am always changing/editing my articles after i post them.. Don't you?
January 25, 2011 at 10:12 pm
Steven Riann – yeah, I read that quote, which is from Archbishop Celli, NOT the Vatican. So Michael Voris is not being "seriously called out by the Vatican." You're inferring that he's the one Celli is talking about, and you may be right. But it's hyperbole to say that the Vatican is "seriously calling out" Michael Voris.
And what vehemence? Michael calls 'em as he sees 'em. His recent Vortex regarding Bishop Hubbard in Albany is spot on. It's not as if he's doing a Keith Olbermann rabid spit-fest – nothing of the sort.
And when it comes to "conservative Catholic bloggers", they could just as easily be implying SSPX bloggers. You just don't know.
The point is this – you've got issues with Michael Voris because of his direct, no-holds barred approach. It's not everyone's cup of tea, for sure. But I can tell you this much – he's not doing it for the hits. The hits come because he has a message that resonates with a lot of people. He's doing something unique, not a bunch of cut and paste stuff.
January 25, 2011 at 10:58 pm
Steve Ryan says:
By the way the smartest guy in the room is Paul Zummo but against his advice I am going to pick up the shovel again.
What did Paul Zummo say? Here:
Steve,
There's a little rule about holes and digging that you might want to heed before you post another dozen comments.
You're right – he is quite smart, but it seems the the first part went over your head. You were digging yourself into a hole. Before you know it Steve, you'll be in China – LOL LOL LOL.
Steve continues: Diane I find it odd that you call my own edits "tampering" – its just bizarre.
I am always changing/editing my articles after i post them.. Don't you?
Editing for typos and redundancies is one thing.
I have certainly never found myself in a position to edit a post to cover-up plagiarism.
Not even in a draft would I include someone else's words – inline – without quotes, italicization, showing it in blockquote, or some other manner of identifying the one to whom those words belong. Even in a draft I can't imagine leaving the source of those words out.
First the plagiarism, then to absolve yourself by saying you weren't finish yet (but were finished enough to hit the publish button!). That wasn't enough. Someone has been attempting to conceal the evidence of wrongdoing by altering timestamps after making fixes. What next?
January 25, 2011 at 11:07 pm
Oh – and Steve, just out of curiosity, do you also edit comments in your combox?
I stopped commenting at Ministry Values when one of my comments was edited by someone who was not me!
I've been active in the blogosphere since 2006 and I have not found a blog yet that edits other people's comments. I've seen some blog owners add their own text, usually in red.
So, do you edit people's comments at Ministry Values, and if so, why?
January 25, 2011 at 11:08 pm
In fact, since you consider yourself a professional news source, you can rest assured, I've never had a single comment edited by a professional news service.
January 25, 2011 at 11:51 pm
Let's be clear on one thing ..The Catholics in Rome got together and decided it was important enough to single out "youTube Channels" and sites which, with some vehemence, criticize bishops" not ministryvalues.com .. does everybody understand that? You all have done a splendid job in shooting the messenger.. You all know it. The Catholics in Romeare who you should be furious at not me.
January 25, 2011 at 11:54 pm
The timestamp issue has been resolved. Freezepage was set to GMT not EST. This has since been fixed.
However, what made me look at the timestamp in the first place was seeing more links, especially near the beginning, and text wrapped in quotes. When I went back soon after saying here that I was going to contact freezepage, the I did not see those links.
I'm not sure what is going on, but I am dropping this part of the matter and retracting the claim that evidence of wrongdoing has been tampered with since I have no snapshot of what I saw during my lunch hour today.
The plagiarism is the primary issue, regardless.
January 26, 2011 at 1:15 am
Steve,
So does that negate the plagiarism at Ministry Values, Steve?
January 26, 2011 at 2:00 am
Let's be clear on one thing ..The Catholics in Rome got together and decided it was important enough to single out "youTube Channels" and sites which, with some vehemence, criticize bishops" not ministryvalues.com
Let's be clear on one thing – it was Archbishop Celli, not "the Catholics in Rome" who interpreted the Pope's words. If you read the Pope's full statement, you'll see he doesn't mention conservative or liberal sites. You're falling for the spin set out by Arbp Celli.
January 26, 2011 at 4:11 am
It's even possible that the spin came from the reporter, not Celli. Without the wording of the question and the answer, we don't know which of them brought up the word "conservative", so we don't know whether Celli or the reporter is thinking of aiming a reproof at conservative Catholics.
