There had been some speculation that they were a hoax.
I guess not.
The Brazilian Gov’t has just released more pictures of that undiscovered tribe in Peru.
The Brazilian government and tribal culture advocacy group Survival International have released photos of a possible undiscovered tribe in the Amazon.
The photos were taken by a Brazilian observation plane and one of them shows a group of seemingly healthy tribe members with food they’ve gathered.
The Brazilian government released the photos to raise awareness about the tribe and the dangers they face.
This is where we need some ol’ school Oboe playing Jesuits to go in there and convert them, and convert them good! With Latin hymns and everything. Guarani style yo!
Your average modern Jesuit would likely just give them some condoms and tell them about the Buddha. No not that kind of Jesuit. Where is Jeremy Irons when you need him?
In all seriousness, Jesus died and rose from the dead for these fine folk. Shouldn’t somebody tell them the good news?

… and teach them to wear jeans, drink wine and sing Latin hymns??? While I certainly do agree with you that this new-found group needs to be told about Jesus, but certainly not in the way you and I think best for them… Rather in a way that is best for them in THEIR own context, from AMONG them and for their well being.
Sure we ought to tell them about Jesus, but not from the pulpits but perhaps from treetops; not with chasubles and surplices but with loincloths; not necessarily in English but in their own native language…
Christ came into this world for them too and they should be offered a possibility of knowing and loving Him, but that does not necessarily mean that they should become like us before becoming Christ-like.

Vincent–hence, good Jesuits. What you're saying is exactly what St. Francis Xavier did.

If these people are so isolated and untouched by the modern world, why is there a metal saucepan in the third photograph?

@ Jeff: They live in an area with three other tribes that do have contact with the modern world. So maybe they traded it or found it.

I saw these people several years ago. Or some very similar. http://www.uncontactedtribes.org has some information to explain the situation.

Thankfully The Jesuits would Liberate their minds and body

The looks on their faces in the bottom photo is amazing. The way they're pointing up at the sky, like they've never seen a plane before, wondering "What is that?" I wonder what's going through their minds.

mch,
they're thinking, "it worked! now let's ditch these machetes and go home. The jungle is safe."
February 3, 2011 at 3:14 pm
I think these folks will just fine without conversion, really.
February 3, 2011 at 3:15 pm
that's will be just fine

those people seem more happy then most of the miserable whiny blowbags who comment on this site
February 4, 2011 at 6:25 pm
Dunno if I'm a whiny blowbag or not, but I am happy. I wonder how you have deduced their general emotional state from 3 pictures? Course, they probably are reasonably happy, but so are most people. It's better to be happy and right though, especially on such a matter as this.
