If the GOP has their way women would be forced into the back alley for abortions, according to a new ad from MoveOn.org. The ad stars some actress I don’t know but is from the show “House.” In the ad, she’s walking down a hall and she opens the closet and…gasp…what’s in there?
A COAT HANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess they’re afraid any restriction on abortion might not keep abortion as safe as Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s clinic. Oh wait…
The thing is that the whole back alley epidemic is a myth and they know it. Former abortionist (and pro-life Catholic convert) Bernard Nathanson admitted that he along with others completely fabricated the numbers of “back alley” abortions and that they laughed when their slogans were treated as scripture by the media.
Here’s the ad from MoveOn:
Anyone else getting the sense that the left is really scared this time? With the Lila Rose videos, poll numbers skewing towards the pro-life side, all sorts of pro-life legislation popping up all over the map, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie defunding Planned Parenthood and now Mike Pence is attempting to defund Planned Parenthood on the federal level I’m thinking the left is scared, really scared for the first time in a loooooong time.
Good. Expect the rhetoric to get a lot crazier the more gains we make. Expect a lot more talk of coat hangers. In which case, here’s my response:

Is the fight against women's rights winning?

I believe it was Father Paul Marx, founder of Human Life International, who said that Roe v. Wade moved the back alley abortions into the store front. Gosnell and American Women's Services have proved Father Marx's prophecy true. Human Existence cannot be eradicated by a law that miscarries Justice. Justice is giving each man what he deserves. The newly begotten deserves life.

@anonymous: If the child in the womb is the property of the mother or part of her body, why does the child have a different DNA? If every human being is property of his parents, then, everything the child owns is property of the person who owns him. Abraham Lincoln said that one person cannot own another person. How can parents own the sovereign personhood of the newly begotten and conceived soul of another? If one person is denied civil rights, all persons are denied civil rights. If the sovereign person has no free will, he is not of the human species, nor will he grow and mature into a child, who government says may need to be aborted to stop his growth.

@ mary de voe. obviously you don't read the bible. men can own other men.
Exodus 21: 20-21
"And if a man smite his SERVANT, or his maid, with a ROD, and he DIE under his hand; he shall be surely PUNISHED. Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his MONEY."

How many women did actually die the last year abortion was outlawed? I heard the number 39.
How many children died? All of them.
How many children and women did Gosnell butcher and mutilate? We will never know.

Anonymous, obviously you haven't read the Constitution. In particular, the 13th Amendment. Here, I'll quote it for you, since it's short.
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
Parents do not own their children. Since slavery is not permitted in the US, Old Testament laws regarding how a master treats his servant aren't applicable.

Why do women want to kill their own babies is what I don't get. In all of creation, only humans do that.
February 16, 2011 at 2:19 pm
Rick–
The way I see it, the root cause of women aborting their babies is the same as that of women abandoning their husbands, and husbands abandoning their wives in divorce:
Our society has conditioned people to believe that (1) human suffering, even at the level of inconvenience, should be able to be avoided at all costs, and (2) self-fulfillment, getting what you want out of life, making your desires come to fruition, should be able to be achieved at all costs, even if that means engaging in evil acts or hurting others.
Another way of putting is that people have been conditioned to believe that the "autonomous" human being is the basic unit of society, instead of the family, and it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

All of this talk about "back alley abortions" makes me wonder: how many acts of "back alley fornications" led to the "BAA's' in the first place?
February 16, 2011 at 6:22 pm
@Rick: Actually some animals kill or even eat their own babies. There's this dog (the bitch) from my wife's village that ate her own babies.
I can recall Archbishop Fulton Sheen comparing man to beasts. Beasts can only live as they are. On the other hand, man can lower himself to the level of beasts.

I think the old "coathanger abortion" rhetoric is insulting to women. Are they trying to say that most women are so stupid as to think that a coathanger abotion is a better choice than having the baby?! Also it is outdated. The stigma of having a baby outside of marriage has been lifted from society as a whole. The only ones who seem to be scandalized by an "unintended pregnancy" are those who are "pro-choice"! Pro-life people are welcoming of any baby under any circumstance, and single parents who are trying to do a good job in raising their children are supported by the society.
Therefore, the intended audience of this commercial is wealthy women who are being fed this line so that they might feel a false compassion (which is actually condescention) towards their "poor fellow women" whose pregnancy is assumed to be an additional curse of the impoverished life they lead. It's degrading and demoralizing to consider that any segment of the population would have no other choice but abortion, legal or otherwise.

@ matt. the thirteenth amendment was adopted on December 6, 1865. Prior to that everybody believed in the Old Testament and justified the right to own slaves according to the Old Testament. It makes me wonder, what else do people quote the Old Testament to justify actions today? Homosexuality? Second class status of women to men? Abortion?
Or in other words, tour quote of the thirteenth amendment makes me wonder what values do we hold, will our ancestors view an antiquated? Clearly back in the day the KKK found guidance from every local preacher, when everybody attended Church. Are preacher telling the truth today? Will homosexuality be widely accepted in the future? It took a civil war to get the thirteenth amendment passed. Today we have MTV and Lady Gaga.

it's not true that everyone believed in slavery and justified it by the Old Testament. Why lie? or rather, why come here and lie, when you have other forums where people will believe you?
