According to The CornerSenator Toomey is caving on defunding Planned Parenthood:
Here’s Senator Toomey:
“I’d like to defund Planned Parenthood, but I understand that Republicans don’t have complete control of the elected government,” Toomey said on MSNBC. “I think what we should do is cut spending as much as we can, get the policy changes that we can, but move on, because there are other, bigger battles that we are fighting.”
I can’t say that it’s a surprise that a Republican Senator is caving but a couple of things really bug me about this. He says Republicans don’t have complete control which is true. But really what he’s saying is that Democrats are willing to shut down the government over abortion funding and Republicans aren’t. Really what he’s saying is that Democrats are more committed to a culture of death than Republicans are committed to a culture of life. It’s that simple.
Secondly, and this one drives me crazy. Toomey says we should surrender because there are “other, bigger battles” to fight. Seriously, what’s a bigger battle than the issue of life? Let me answer this. There is no bigger battle.
Here’s the thing Senator Toomey, if we can’t trust you on the issue of life then how can we trust you on taxes, spending and defense?

"other, bigger battles" yet another lie to justify compromise. I hope the others have clearer visions that this idiot and all those who advocate a "truce" on the struggle to save the unborn.

Apparently Sen. Coburn is also signalling surrender on PP. I agree with your post completely. Why is it the the pro-lifers are always the ones that have to "blink" first!
Obama and the Democratic Senate are equally responsible for any shutdown, and their reason appears to be to support an extreme abortion group that doesn't need or deserve our money!
In a normal world, that would outrage Americans.

I don't see how it's especially damning because you put it exactly right — what this would demonstrate is that Democrats are more beholden to Planned Parenthood / the abortion industry than Republicans are to pro-lifers.
Here's the other consideration — losing the rider doesn't actually change anything (PP was eligible for government money before) and since it wasn't going to become law as long as Dems have 40 senators, the White House, Repubs get something for nothing.

GRRRRR is RIGHT! I gave this guy $ because (in part) he was PRO-LIFE. What the heck!
This is really disappointing. When are Republican's going grow some and FIGHT for what matters?

I pray and hope Donald Trump exposes our Undocumented Leader as a foreigner usurping the presidency. The fallout from that would have to drive a huge nail in the coffin of the Party of Death, then we'd be seeing less and less of the Catholic traitors like Pelosi backing up the system from the cesspool.

Well said, sir!

IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A RECALL ON THESE LOSERS?
April 9, 2011 at 10:42 am
The Republicans were never going to win this one, as they don't control the white house or the senate. It's not really a matter of 'who wants it more' as much as it is 'who gets to win'.
The fact is that when the Republicans did control the government, they did nothing. Prolifers have to admit this and quit their marriage to a party whose real interest is staying in power and protecting big money. They use life issues to get votes and then as a political cudgel when they see an advantage, but don't speak or act from actual conviction.

15 years later: and republicans still cry babies. they only rule one-half of one third of the government. they are being viewed as children.
then they give up on limiting abortion in exchange for a future vote in the Senate on abortion spending to appease conservatives voter. how stupid do they think were are? the democrats run the Senate, the vote has no chance of passing!!
the Republican establishment needs to be voted out of Congress….they promise budget cuts…. but NEVER deliver…. they promise decreasing abortion spending….but NEVER deliver….
HOT AIR!!

It's not really convincing to complain about people calling you stupid when you can't be bothered to use proper grammar and capitalization.
the democrats run the Senate, the vote has no chance of passing!!
Well duh. Here's the thing – that's kind of the point. I wonder how many of the people who are going to complain about this deal were cheerleading when Rick Santorum lost his re-election bid in 2006 because of his Specter endorsement? And now his replacement, a "pro-life" Democrat, is likely to vote against the amendment.
Yeah, not a dime's worth of difference. It's nice to keep telling yourself in order to justify your sense of moral outrage.
they promise budget cuts…. but NEVER deliver.
Ummm, they did actually deliver budget cuts. Not as much as anyone of would prefer, but last I checked Democrats controlled the White House and Senate.
HOT AIR!!
And ranting on a blog about something that couldn't be achieves isn't?

I'm with you on this. You hit the nail on the head when you said that Democrats are willing to shut down government on this issue, but not Republicans. It's such a hot button issue, and so many politicians are afraid to touch it. It's ridiculous. Take a stand for once. Make the tough choices, and do what's right, GOP!

Dear Mr. Zummo. You are Charlie Brown to the Stupid Party's Lucy: "Well, she really did have to move the football didn't she? I am not an professional kicker and I could have put-out somebody's eyes or broken a window, so, actually, Lucy did the right thing. Lucy always does the right thing and if you can't see that then you are either being boastfully morally superior or you are an idiot who does not understand the political process like I do."
There is one Lucy but ten million Charlie Browns
