I’m no fan of public schools but I know there’s a lot of teachers out there trying to work with kids in very bad situations. Here’s a video causing quite the uproar in the blogosphere of a teacher punching a kid. I’ve got to tell you it seems to me the kid needed punching. That kid got all up in that woman’s bizness. To me, that’s a threat. This is one case where I’m glad the school has this woman’s back. I think she’s kept her job.
Check out the vid that I stole shamelessly from The Blaze.
Warning: One of my rotten kids stole my headphones to pretend they were a pilot so I don’t know if there’s cursing in the video so consider yourself warned:
What do you think?

Good for the teacher, and good for the school for backing her up! There is no excuse for the crap that kid was trying to pull, and now that he knows there's a right hook waiting for him, I bet he won't try it again!

Awesome teacher. That's all I can say. I bet that kid won't try to pull anything on her again!

Three cheers for this Teacher! She did absolutely what she had to do when faced with a snarling punk in her face. She needed to back him off – good for her!

No cursing that was fully audible at least…no worries! 🙂 And yeah, he needed punching.

"Arrested for child abuse"
CHILD abuse?
Did you see the size of that "child"?
He towered over his teacher.
Really, this term "child abuse" shouldn't be bandied around like that.

I just wanted to add an aside: frankly, I loved the narrator. Calm, professional, presenting the facts. News nowadays is so full of "The teacher slapped the child on the face DUH DUH DUH!" and other melodramatic accretions that need to be discarded.

I taught in a sort of junior-college or community college (Indiana Vocational Technical College), and I came darn close to laying hands on a couple of students once. (Fortunately, the miscreants finally subsided.)
You HAVE to be in charge, you HAVE to keep order and discipline. Otherwise, the punks run the class.

She was clearly cornered and did not pursue him after he backed away. Straight-up self defense in my book. Also, Florida is one of several states that allows a condition of "self defense" even if the victim had the option to flee; ie. even though there was a door behind her which she may have been able to get away through, she is still entitled to stand and defend herself from an obvious threat.

I feel sorry for teachers, they've been teaching/preaching dissent from authority for the past several decades and they're surprised when it comes full circle without having having a clue.
Don't trust anyone over 30.

Dude, she's got a mean right hook, I wouldn't mess with her either.
Teacher did exactly what needed to be done. Three cheers for the school system for backing her up.
Punks like that should get a proper education…From behind bars.

Oh, Anonymous, surely you met at least one teacher — just one — who urged you not to stereotype? Are all electricians union goons? Are all CPAs one decimal away from being mad bombers? Are all businessmen rich and greedy vultures stealing from widows and orphans?
And, hey, did you vote in your last school board election? Local election? State election?

Speaking of biased news reporters, I just heard a report on this:
"Teacher punches student in the face after he allegedly backs her into a corner."
Umm…allegedly? seriously?

The student was out of line to begin with yelling at the teacher that way. He disobeyed the order to get back and even lunged forward making bodily contact.
This can be avoided if security was paged or if the teachers had pepper sprays, mace or tazers.
